In your other post you mentined your friend's car is a turbo. That would be a 1982 280ZX turbo. The hood from a 1981 and older will not be the same, unless it happens to also be a turbo. Stick with 1982-83 only so that all the bumper trim and hood are an exact match. Mike would know this though...
