Tech Session this Friday 5-26

I want to install my springs and clear corners on my G35 this Friday after work. I can't do it at my house because the Z is still up on jack stands with no suspension waiting for my custom springs to arrive. So if anybody wants to lend a hand and their garage for a few hours this Friday I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if anybody else wants to just come hang out and see how its done this would be a good time. Springs are one of the most common installs on our cars and its good to know how to install yourself to save some money. It should only take a few hours and we can do some work on other peoples cars as well if the host wants. Any takers?

I have Friday off and I will probably need help with installing my boost controller, a couple of gauges, and fixing my stupid headlight. So my garage is definitely available.

I would ***** out my garage but it's a single and I can barely get in and out of my car. Anyway, I would say we go to Ty's house....he's got a nicely spaced garage and he's not that far away. This would be my 3rd set of springs installed so I could help out a bit.

Ty's house sounds good as he will have all of the necessary tools. Aarif, if its alright with Ty, we can do your car when you get off. Camber kits are quick and easy. I can probably get off work around 4:00 and head straight to Ty's house.

Yeah, Mike has experience in springs install. Oh, and if Aarif helps, DO NOT have him bring his "tools".

Ok so I am having a supercharger problem and plan on calling Scott about it in a minute. I think its a keyway thats getting screwed up, and hopefully its an easy fix that we can do Friday at Ty's house. There is a "clicking" sound coming from the engine bay at idle and it would go away once you got on the gas. Then last night the CEL came on and this morning after getting some gas, I lost boost. The clicking sound is now all the way through the RPM range and the SC isn't spooling. All of the belts are on and I don't see/smell anything wierd. Must be a keyway.

After further inspection, it may just be one of the pulleys. I hope so because I could have a replacement in the mail tomorrow and I wouldn't have to bring my car down to San Diego. There is a pulley on the SC that is either loose or broken causing the noise, and I can see it moving around. Or it could be doing that because the keyway that it is attached to is broken. I am going to take off the pulley tonight to see what I can find out.

Ok well I got my supercharger problem figured out and there is good news and bad news. The bad news is, my keyway was the culpret and it destroyed my pulley and thru-shaft along with it so I will be without a supercharger for a little while. The good news is, my car is still driveable without the supercharger hooked up and, I will be able to take all of the broken parts off and ship them to VRT, saving me a trip to San Diego. I will have a fabricator custom make a new thru-shaft that will accomodate a second keyway to ensure that this doesn't happen again.

So I will be at Ty's house Friday night as planned installing my springs and stuff. Ooooh, I forgot one more thing that I want to install while we have the wheels and suspension out...my VRT front strut tower brace. See you guys Friday!

Whenever. I'll be here all day working on my car probably. I want to make sure that we have time to get to everyone, plus I'm driving out to Long Beach on Saturday.

Actually I'm probably going to start on mine tomorrow night so if anyone doesn't have anything better to do swing on over.

LOL Ty, you crack me up. I am glad that your urge to kill subsided.

I will try and get to Ty's house as early as I can tomorrow, but it probably won't be any earlier than 4:00pm. Ty, do you need me to bring any tools, jack, jack stands, food, beer, Pinot Grigio, etc.?

I loaned one of my jacks to James so I only have one. A spare might be handy to have. I have 2 good jackstands, I don't think that we'll need more than that. I have most of the tools that we should ever need though if someone has a good metric wrench set you may want to bring it, half of mine are MIA. That reminds me that I need to go shopping for a wrench set...

I will bring a wrench set, a jack, and 4 jack stands then. If we do Mike's brake lines, its easiest to bleed them with all of the wheels off. It will also make my suspension swap easier if we have enough people and tools to go around.

P.S. Ty, I think I may have some of your tools at my house. I have this awesome metric socket set at my house and I have no clue where it came from. I use them all of the time thought and the are great . Are they yours? DISCLAIMER: The rightful owner of this socket set will have to answer a series of questions correctly describing the socket set and provide two forms of valid photo id...They will not go without a fight.
