Why would you need a long sleeved shirt?

SinCity350Z 05-09-2005 10:42 AM

I don't know, some sanctions require that claiming safety reasons. How that is going to be safer, I have no clue.

Nforce1 05-09-2005 11:41 AM

^^^ Just in case you get THROWN out of your car, you land on the pavement and you go sliding... lol, riight?

SinCity350Z 05-09-2005 11:51 AM

lol I guess. The only logical thing I can come up with is it would help if you get hit with pieces of rubber or rocks from other cars since your windows are down.

roneski 05-09-2005 12:14 PM

... because I like racing with my arms flailing out of the windows. :p

SinCity350Z 05-09-2005 12:19 PM

Back on topic...are you guys going to sign up or am I flying solo on this one?

roneski 05-09-2005 12:29 PM

Too advanced for me, I need to do some more autoX before I try something that I can actually hurt my car with.

You need to lose that mentality Ty. Thats the same mentality that almost made you walk out of the autocross before it started lol. It is not advanced, I actually think that autocross is harder. Go at your own pace, sign up in the beginner group, and I guarantee you that you will not be sorry. Track racing and autocross are two completely different things so getting more of those under your belt wont help you much. As far as hurting your car, I wouldn't count on it. There is nothing to run into. Passing zones in the beginner group are strictly limited to the back straight on point by only.

roneski 05-09-2005 12:56 PM

But I like that mentality... it gets me though the day...

If I were to shed it I may actually be forced to be successful at something. ;)

I'm going to try the track eventually, just not yet. I'm with Ty...I'd like to push the limits of my car (and me!) at the autocrosses some more before I try something at high speeds. I just want to get used to losing it and recovering at 30 MPH on a nice flat parking lot before I try it at 75-80 at the track. I know, I know. It's relatively safe. But still...

Nforce1 05-09-2005 06:49 PM

I just cant afford the fee's and new tires... otherwise I would be down.

New tires??? Why?

rob209 05-09-2005 07:29 PM

You learn a whole lot more at the track than 60 seconds at autox. It's a great environment to learn and you can go as fast/slow as you want since it isn't really a competition. You actually get to know the course and can improve on the previous laps, it takes about half a day to get a good feel for the track, then after that it's just perfecting the lines. And there's always the chance you can ride along in a radical!!! If you don't know what that is, go to the track and find out!
DO IT!

You're a gentelman and a scholar Rob...

Hopefully we get put in the same run group.

scoobybri 05-09-2005 08:10 PM

I'm thinking about it. I would want to go on Saturday, but I'm going to the Queens of the Stone Age concert the night before. I don't want to be asleep behind the wheel. AND it's $175. That's going to come straight out of my Miata mod fund.

Anybody going the night before? If I went, I might just ride out after the show. I'd prolly hit Pahrump by 1AM. Hmmm...much to consider.

scoobybri 05-09-2005 08:19 PM

Also, I'm afraid that I might toast my brakes, warp my rotors, etc. No Brembos on the '05s. I might just wait until I get the Miata putting 250 HP to the rear wheels before I go out there.

rob209 05-09-2005 08:32 PM

Are you going both days Mike? I'll probably just do Sunday.

SinCity350Z 05-09-2005 09:18 PM

Brian - Don't worry about your rotors, the Brembo rotors are not much better than stock.

Rob - I was thinking of going just one day as well. I am down for Sunday.

SinCity350Z 05-11-2005 09:58 AM

Ok well I have officially sent in my registration for Sunday only.

Late Apex 05-13-2005 05:17 PM

Scooby - your brakes will be fine. I did the last Pahrump event in my stock Enthusiast. No brake problems at all. And trust me, I was hard on 'em.

SinCity350Z 05-13-2005 05:22 PM

John, are you going to be at this one in your Porsche

Late Apex 05-13-2005 05:46 PM

I'm not going to be doing anything in my Porsche for a week or two. In my inspection after the track event last weekend, I discovered a crack in my engine mount bar. I ordered a new one which will be here in a few days.

I gotta work late nights next weekend and I never like to drive if I am not well rested. I may come out to instruct. Doubt it, but maybe.
