SCCA Drift and Autocross @ Nellis AFB

I don't know if this has been put out here yet, but I have read several posts refering to it....so here's the skinny:
Nellis Auto event Weekend
Drifting - Apr 14
Autocross - Apr 15
At the Green Flag bldg #242 and on the Flight line
Register the day of the event
Autocross entry for military $15
SCCA members $30
all others $40
Drift demos (ride in car w/ instructor) free for military
Particitating cars must pass basic safety inspection

TIMES:
Sat Apr 14 0700 Drifting Reg and set-up
0730 Drifting Demo
0830 Drifting 101
1100 Military "ride-along" with instructor

Sun Apr 15 0700 SCCA reg
0830 Safety brief
0900 First car on track
1600 Last car on track

I know this is a last minute post - sorry, eh? Be aware that the NHRA finals will be running just down the street Sat and Sun so plan for traffic around business hours!

I have never done drifting before, but it looks like fun... What exactly is the Drfting 101? Is it a class? or just some simple quick instruction for the vets?

kormaniac 04-13-2007 10:22 PM

The extended Drifting schedule on Saturday looks like this:
0730 Drifting demo
0830 Drifting 101 (A basic how-to with driver techniques, corner speeds, and possible best set-ups for drifting?)
0930 Drifting demo after the 101 course so you can go, "Ahhhhhhhh, now I get it!"
1100 Military ride along w/ instructors
1400 Course teardown and set-up for Sunday Autocross

I am not at all affiliated with the event, but I will be out for the Autocross on Sunday to check it out. I am not a drifter either - but it looks like it is going to be a pretty cool event. There are several people on this forum that can get on the base, so if you are interested - hit them up. I can take throw 2-3 bodies in my G to get to the event Sunday......or if you want to pay the registration and put your car up for the safety inspection (do not know what the SCCA requires, but I'm sure there is a website out there), I'll sponsor your wheels on to the base.

More pics! Morrrreee piiiicccsss!!!!!

I'm surprise they let the jets taxi so close to the drift course considering FOD from tires, etc. are present.

So how was the FOD walk afterwards? Fun, wasn't it?

showtypeZ 04-18-2007 11:26 AM

I'm the Squadron FOD manager for my Unit and I do FOD walks everyday during the week. hehehe

Its just soft FO , the jets actually leave a lot more rubber and chunks of rubber out on the runway everytime they land.

showtypeZ 04-18-2007 06:17 PM

Its only FO (foreign object) till it damages something , then its FOD.

Yogi 04-19-2007 06:56 AM

FOD walk was fun. The wind kicked up and blew stuff to a part of the flight line we didn't have accesss to. One guy had to chase his bag all the way to the red line.
