Ok, here we go. Bracket racing is a fair form of drag racing where consistency beats horsepower. You start out the day doing heads up style qualifying runs. At the end of qualifying you look at your times and you pick a safe time that you think you can run consistantly. A good rule of thumb is to take 1/10th off of your fastest 1/4 mile. The number you pick is now your dial-in. You write this time on your window before the 1st round of eliminations. So say that your dial-in is a 14.00 and you line up next to a guy with a 12.00 dial-in. You will get a 2 second head start because that is the difference between your two dial-ins. Heres the catch, if you go faster than your dial-in, you automatically lose. This is called breaking out. If both of you break out then closest to dial-in wins. So reaction time and consistency really pay off in bracket racing. First one to the line wins, so if you have 1/2 a car on the other guy, tap the brakes just before the finish line to lower your chances of breaking out. Any quesions?

Sounds fun! How much!? If the price is right, I might try this instead of MM tonight.
|
I don't know how much. My instinct tells me that it is $40-$60 with $100 to win, $75 to r/u, $50 to semis. I am going off of memory of the event I raced 3 years ago, so I am probably not correct.

FYI Gates Open @ 3:00pm for this event

Oh, and its cash only entry fee. No checks or charge.

Well, you guys missed out. My Chevelle was probably in the slowest 5% of all of the cars there. My fastest of the day was a 14.188 @ 95mph. I knocked .3 off of my previous fastest time with just the dyno tuning! I was pretty happy with that. I lost in the first round of competition to an 11 second car when my transmission slipped at the end of the track. At least thats what I think it was. The motor just kind of shut power off to the wheels for a second and I ran a 14.45 with a 14.1 dial. At first I thought I ran out of gas, but that wasn't the case, so transmission is my next guess. It has been shifting crappy lately and it was a quart low on fluid this morning. Oh well, I had him beat until then too. The first half of that run was actually my best of the day.
