I'll Try it here.....
Sorry to the guys in the Z33 section, I hadn't been here for a while and didn't realize there was a new section. Anyways, I have a 94 300zx that I had replaced the turbos on, hoping to solve a smoking problem. Well, turns out the engine is shot and needs to be rebuilt. My thoughts on this is, rebuild or replace? I plan on taking the motor out, and putting it back in myself. but would it be easier to buy another motor, build it and then put it back in right after taking the old one out, so not to forget where things went, or to just take alot of pics and hope my memory is really good, and if to buy another short block, how many years can I get the short block from? Since the VG30 was used in earlier Z's can the block be used with the newer heads, or what about using a JDM Spec motor? THanks, K.C.
You're already starting with a tt engine, so why throw your money away on another one? Just rebuild. The money you would spend on another engine you could spend on the one you got.
Buying another engine would make sense if you were driving the car at the same time you were building the spare one up. Since that is no longer the option, don't waste the money on something you already have.
Think about it, why spend two grand on an engine, when you could spend two grand on upgrades.
What parts specifically do you need to replace?
You should use a 90+ block.

Parts needed to replace......
It for surely needs pistons, and rings, I don't think I am going to worry about Rods, I think the stock ones are fine, the other thing I am wondering about is, I want to scrap the GReddy profec B boost controler that is in the car, and replace it with a manual one. What type of Manual boost controler would you suggest? Anyway, I was thinking JE pistons, and in worse case scenario, either some eagle or pauter rods, and then who makes some really good, boost friendly Rings for that motor? All help as always will be greatly appreciated, thanks, K.C.

They have a good deal on pistons and rings right now. Check it out.

Here's a good boost controller comparison by Sport Compact Car, it's definitely worth a look.
