is there a power difference between the vg30det sold in the US z31s and the vg30det sold in the japanese z31s?
if so... what are they?

There was NO vg30DET released in the US in any car. The turbo engine in the z31 is a vg30et (no D). The engine in the z32 twin turbos was the vg30dett (tt=twin turbo).

The vg30det (notice only one t...but has the d)... it was only released in Japan. I know they made some that were 260hp stock, but they put the engine in a few cars, and the hp rating could be different on each car.

The vg30det has a single turbo, but is DOHC...and has much larger heads and ports than the US released vg30dett does.

Fairlady Z31 86 - 89 (I assume the japanese models)
Cima II (FPY32) 93 - 96
Leopard (UF31) 88 - 92
Cedric/ Gloria (Y32) 91 - 95

What I want to know is where can I get the DET, how much, and is it a bolt on or do I have to do a lot of crazy stuff to make it work?

Next question. Does any one know about the RB30det? (rb-race built (I think) D-DOHC and the T for turbo. What's the e?)

 

VG32DET did NOT come in any Z31. Matter of fact, the VG32 doesn't even exist as a stock Nissan product. And that sheet is wrong. Notice they don't say anything about the VG30et, VG20et or VG30e as motors being in the Z31. The ONLY year the VG30de or VG30dett may have actually come in the Z31 just before the Z32 came out. And then, only a few cars got it.

D = dual overhead cam.
E = Electronic Fuel Injection
T = turbo
TT = twin turbo
30 = 3.0L engine
32 = 3.2L engine
33 = 3.3L engine.
VG = V6 series G engine.
RB = Inline 6 series engine not race built.

Hey! Only goin by what I read. And it's not the first time I've seen in print that the vg30det came in a z31. (88+ only). We know the vg30dett coming in the z32.

uhhh... that depends on how much you spend on the engine. I bought a used 84T motor for $200. That's $1 per horse power!!!

Think about this, buy a JDM engine, and you will have to buy lots of other stuff at JCM prices cause they don't have anything like it over here.

Then again, you may get lucky and get an entire front clip for next to nothing cause some idiot bought it and couldn't figure out how to cut his old front off and weld the new one on.
