Speedo pigtail repair

Car is a February 1980 model

In the last two weeks, I have had two of the short speedo cables break. At this point I don't want to replace it with a used one, BUT its a part that I can not find new.

My question is has anyone used one of the universal cut to size cables? If so what kind did you use?

In my area, the 1 parts story in town does not carry them in stock so no way to make sure it will work.

If you have snapped two cables in two weeks, something else is wrong (sum ting wong!)

Does the speedo spin freely?
Are the speedo cables lubed?
Are there any kinks in the cables?

Im not sure if something else in wrong, My BIGGEST mistake was not inspecting the second cable before using it.
The speedo spins freely, but when it worked, it had a little of the hop still in it, I did not worry about it too much, it was barely noticeable.

are they lubed? I did not inspect it like I should have, but when I took it out today, it had some lube on it, but not in the area of the break.

I did not see any kinks in the cable, but it broke a 2 weeks ago.
