87 z31 non-turbo

I'm new to the site and just wanted to say hi. I'm picking up an 87 300ZX tomorrow with a few issues, but can't beat the price. I'm getting it for $500. It has a low idle issue and a slow to overheat issue. I will be doing an overhaul on the vacuum system as well as flush the coolant and replacing the radiator and thermostat. I'm pretty sure this will clear up the above stated issues, but will update with progress.

Welcome to z driver, man! Keep us updated. Im sure a lot of people would like to know how that goes. Those are pretty common problems with the z31.

First update. I ended up picking it up for 400. Just found an added bonus of a pre-installed camber correction brackets when I pulled the infiniti 18s off.

Here are some quick pictures. I will get some better ones when I get it back outside of the garage. For now I am throwing a new radiator in and am going to tackle the rats nest of a vacuum system. Yes, the paint on all of the upper surfaces is severely oxidized. Nothing a buffer and a little polish can't take care of. In the second picture you'll notice a slight dent in the middle of the bumper. When I got the cover off I noticed the actual bumper itself had been bent in. It looks like someone lightly ran into a small pole. I will put some heat to her and reshape the bumper in the morning. Can't beat it for 400 bones though!

my 87 Z31 had a nasty vac leak at the charcoal can, so I removed it and capped the lines foe vacuum...

when I removed my front bumper to do the radiator swap, it didn't look anything like that haha

good looking car tho, your rims are definitely better then mine haha

Hey thanks tatsu I'll play close attention while replacing the vacuum lines. I found the timing to be completely retarded. I adjusted and it runs so much better now.

I completely tore apart the interior to start working on the digital climate control problem and found some more crap. There was a remote auto start installed, so I pulled all that junk out. I fixed the horn that wasn't working. Now I have an issue with the dome light as well as foot well lights staying on all the time, even with the car off. The door lights go out when I close the doors, but....

I ordered all new silicone vac lines and waiting for my second job to pay up so I can get a new radiator.

Disregard the dome light issue, the hatch cable was bound up. I got every vac line replaced except for the hvac lines. Now I need to find replacement hoses for the brake booster, Idle air to intake, valve cover to intake, and throttle body to intake tube.

Well, I scored a Holset HE351CW for dirt cheap while I was on a work trip to Vegas. My buddy had it sitting in his garage and I told him I could put it to better use, so a few bucks and a bottle of soju later... I still need to gather all the stock parts to do the NA-T, but will have this for when I rebuild the motor.
