there is a 1986 300zx turbo for 2230 should i buy it
is a manual trans with greedy boost controlers interior needs work but outside is in great shape t-tops no leaks and body paint is flawless

One, you didn't give enough info, but even if you did, unless most people saw it, they can't tell. I bought an 87 NA for $1800. If that helps. (doubt it) What type of condition is it in? What problems does it have? Auto or man? I mean, there's a lot of questions to answer to just say yea or na

 

Oops. I over looked the manual trans. So he did say that much. Either way. Does it run as good as it looks? He said turbo.... What condition is it in? You knew what I was tryin to get at. (But thanks for point that out and totally... no matter...) haha

Just FYI, all Z31 turbos were manual transmissions.
I actually payed a lot for mine, but I also wanted this car bad and the guy didn't want to sell it off hand.First thing is to take it for a drive. Run all the electronics (Running lights, A/C, stereo, etc.) Take her up to a good speed on a highway and see how it rides, make sure you test all gears. Doesn't hurt to take it to a specialist and have them look over the engine also.

Uh, no. Not all Z31 turbos were manual transmissions. Where the hell did you hear that from? As a matter of fact, ALL the Canadian 2+2 turbos were automatics. You couldn't buy a manual transmission 2+2 turbo in Canada. And you couldn't buy a 2+2 turbo Z31 in the US at all.

There are a lot of automatic transmission turbos running around. But when the transmission goes out, its big bucks to have it fixed right. A manual transmission swap is very common since it usually costs a lot less.

I was refering to the american models. I have heard of canadian models, and california models, or types. Its in my Haynes manual VIN guide, but I never heard of American models offering turbos in auto transmissions in Z31's. I thought it was first offered in the Z32's. Same thing about the 2+2 Turbo, didn't know it was offered in Canada.
Are automatics more expensive to work on than standards when it comes to transmissions in general?

 

Sorry about the reference to Canada. Just got confusing I guess. But the fact still remains. In the US, there are plenty of turbo automatics driving around. Automatics are more complex than manuals and are generally more expensive to rebuild.

When you take it on test drive also pay attention to the play in the steering. After a 100K in miles the rack & pinion starts to go out on the Z31s. It's about $500-$600 to have the rack & pinion replaced by a mechanic.

Ah.. you guys forgot to mention rust... paint job not withstanding.. crawl around as much as possible and look under the car.. floors, rocker panels.. behind the seats, under the battery, rad support area, trunk area.. etc.. rust I think is the most expensive to fix..

And your right about the Canadian 2+2 turbos.. all autos.. I know.. I have had 2, and own 1 currently.

I paid 2800 for mine with 150K a bit of rust, good interior and some custom stuff.

it needed tires, and some minor brake work to safety..

oh.. mine is an 88 300zxt 2+2 AUTO loaded..adjustable suspension doesn't work, and shocks were replaced with tokicos.
