What's your operating temperature?

I'm used to seeing my temp gauge on my supra in the middle..never a needle above..now in my Z..when its fully warm it just stays about 2 needle-ish above the middle..it doesn't fluctuate..it just stays their..is this normal?..i questioned the previous owner and he told me its always been like that in the hottest days.

Is it normal?

no that's not normal at all. the gauge is designed to stay in the middle even with some temperature fluctuation. being above middle at all means you're significantly hot, unless someone can chime in with the chance of mis-calibration, which i don't know to be a possibility. might be time for a new thermostat, coolant flush, and a cleaning of your radiator and shroud. this fan sucks so much that it collects a lot of grass and stuff.

the fan collects a lot of dirt and grass in it's shroud. that needs to be cleaned out, and make sure the fan clutch is grabbing as it should.

You do not need to clean the fan - they don't get dirty enough to inhibit airflow.

Remove the radiator and backwash the AC condenser (spray water from inside the engine bay toward the front of the car to push all the crap out of the condenser, which is in front of the radiator).

And check your fan clutch, as has been said multiple times.
