why you always replace your tenstioner

so after sinking close to a grand into the talon i got her running. but one cylinder wasnt firing. thought it was an injector since i had dropped that one and it was missing its pintle cap and got a new set of FIC 550's. then no start. hmmmm... i wondered. the engine was seemingly flooding out. then a back fire happened after i let off the starter followed by a crunch PING noise. suddenly no more compression. well i took the head off and the cams out and this is how my valves look

luckily thats the only damage other than maybe the guides. i wanted to put in new cams anyways. lol. ok im actually very pissed. i didnt replace teh tensioner cause everyone i talked to (not DSM guys though just napa people DUH) said hydraulic tensioners hardly go bad if its not that old it's probably fine. rotated the motor by hand and stayed in time but nope. not once under running load. i knew it to. i knew i should have. also explains why it wouldnt fire on new injectors. **** timing belts. and **** napa timing kits that come with everything but a tensioner. back to the machine shop i go.

Ouch, well. I've learned to never listen to any auto part stores anymore. Their idiots selling parts, not mechanics

You should always replace the tensioner on a Z too, though. That little puppy can take out the the whole motor, ya know?
