Talking New here,About to pick up a mint 86 50Th Aninversary For $500

Hey guys,

Well i wouldn't believe what i found yesterday around my town.A mint or damn near mint 300zx turbo .It's also black with black interior and looks like showroom condiction for its age .Needs the hood resparyed but thats pretty common with a old z the paint wasn't the best.I never really liked these cars till i spotted this one sitting in this womens garage lol.

Im gonna find out if its a true 50th Aniniversary edition and it also has the Shiron badge on the trunk so i dunno the story about that. She says its a 86 but i have yet to confrim this.Ill look up the numbers and see if it matchs the true 50th aniniversary editions. It has all the features the 50th came with adjustable radio in steering wheel digital dash and digital compass and boost gauge. And mirored t tops as well.

Ill get some pics of it when its in my backyard lol.I personaily think i can get it for $300 as its her ex husbands car. Also just needs the engine put back in it and i need to drop the tank and clean it out as its got alot of old gas in it.

Is there anything i should watch out for?I looked for rust and simply couldn't find any so far and looked in the spots where they rust too.

$300-$500 for a near mint 300zx turbo 50th aniniversary i think i should pick it up and get her back on the road and enjoy it and maybe throw on a mbc and just daily drive it .Also its a automatic not a manual so thats a good thing i think lol.

Hope to learn alot of things about these old z31's i love how they look now and there such a time shell for all the features they had.Truely amazing to me lol.

Cya guys around.

http://www.az-zbum.com/ pretty much the guru of z31. about the hood usually the clear is oxide and needs to be freshened up. some people get away with a good buff and wax. The paint back then was not a real problem. autos are ok but most people get these cars with manuals or swap to manuals because sports cars with auto is blasphemy. well keep us updated looks like you have a good project coming into your hand. Good luck.

Yeah this will be my 1st import actually lol.Reason i said the auto is probably better is i bet its not abused much compared to a manual car.I know of 4 z31's in the local junkyard here and they have a few with the manual box's so i will swap em out more then likely but i wanna get it running 1st.

Hopefully if this guy picks up this head today ill go over there and get some pics of her and who knows i might get it for just $300.

i can guarantee it's not a 50th AE. the AE was 84. it's also not a Shiro, those were 88. both have very distinct identifying features. it's just a plain old '86 turbo, which is a great deal for $500.

If it's a 50th AE, then it's not an 86.
If it's an 86, then it's not a 50th AE.
If it's black on black and a 50th AE, then it's a repaint.

$500 is a great deal if it is really in that nice of condition.

yeah, if it's black and an 86 model it's not a 50th anniversary. the shiro models were white too...that's what shiro means lol. either way, i own an 86 turbo and i can promise you, you'll love it. especially for only $300, $500.

AZ-bum and E stole all my words, its probably just a plain ole auto Z31 turbo which is nothing special, however if its in as great of condition as you make it sound to be (and also if we assume once you drop the motor back in it will run with NO problems) it is a pretty good deal.

also, auto's were "good" in classic muscle cars, any other sports car they are a waste unless you want all out drag then you need a power glide or similar. auto's in normal sports car are crap in most peoples opinions, takes away from the driving experience weighs more and yields more drive train power loss, also they are harder and more expensive to fix and don't take to abuse as well as manuals. and being an auto doesn't mean it was less prone to abuse, being owned by a woman or an older couple in general does however.

Welcome to the forum fellow newcomer. The main thing I would look for other than a clean running motor etc. is to be sure that the fuel injectors have been replaced or retrofitted due to a recall on all Z31s. If this has not happened you are at risk of an engine fire. I bought my '87 with a huge burn hole in the hood insulator. I was assured the retrofit took place. Awesome find, you will love this car. To find out if the fuel injector has been fixed, call Nissan with your VIN. They can tell you.

Happy Z'ing!

I've got a 1985 z31 Turbo that has 50th AE badges, my buddy was saying that he heard they did it at alot of the dealerships because the 50th's were so popular. So many people asked for them, so they started putting the 50th markings on at the dealerships. Don't quote US on that, 'cause neither of us claim we know this as a fact, just a rumor 'n something to think about.

FYI, the 50th Anniversary badges were not exclusive to the AE. the badges were included uninstalled with non-AE cars in '84 as part of the Nissan 50th anniversary. so seeing them on non-AE cars does not necessarily mean somebody was trying to pull a fast one.

I've seen them on 84 Maximas and 84 Datsun Trucks. I wouldn't be surprised if they were slapped on any 1984 model cars by some dealerships.

on a car that's 25 years old, it'd be pretty rare for one in superb condition to still have the original paint. oh, and I've heard of a couple dealerships that painted a couple of 50th AEs red over black.
