which should i use.

the dilemea is to use a rb25, or l28. its for my racecar, not the street car. the rb is of course turbo, and the L series would be n/a. in the class im going to be in (gt) there are both kinds of cars. boosted and n/a. heres the other part, i got lots of l stuff, but no rb stuff. the rb will cost me 2000 to get to my door with harness and tranny etc. and i can spend another 1500 to get it to 320-350hp. now the L series motor is at 10.5:1 cr and i want it at 12.5:1 ish. (gonna be on race gas) i have a clutch for it and header flange and ill need some machining and balancing, a cam and rebuild the tranny (have all the parts) it also will need a bigger intake, injectors and ecu (megasquirt or other) so what should i do??? thats the big question. im willing to spend the dough, thats not easy, but ill do it. my hardest part is the rb can be upgraded very easily

Are you concerned about what class you enter based on NA or turbo setup?

Depending on what kind of class restrictions there are, I would say go for what you feel you'd enjoy driving the most. I'm biased towards the turbo setup since that's what I'm driving at the moment, but then again the throttle response of an n/a is addicting too. If you have lots of time, I'd even recommend the 1JZ as an option instead of the RB.

RB25 ftw. just much more potential and everything especially over an NA L motor. but again, depends on what they restrict you to.

in gt im pretty much open class, its based on weight and engine size. im up against turbo 911's, vipers and some other fast nascar type stuff. also in the class is a 240z that says he has 300 hp, but he revs it to 5000, yet the old owner (my buddy) used to shift at 7500 rpm. even still he does o.k and usually is mid pack. then there are the honda crowd and some mr2's. some turbo, some not, so it really is mixed. i prolly could do well with the z motor, but kick some viper and porsche butt with the rb25. only prob is, i have to get the rb from ebay. they are very hit and miss. my buddy has got great motors, and has got ones that last all but a month.

Cool, if the class is lax on specs, I'd go with the RB then. It'd probably be less stressed than the L would and produce more power in the process. You can get an engine from jdm-online. They are based in Canada if I remember correctly. Quite a few 240sx people go through them for motors.

I was going to say L series, but given the competition and the lack of motor restrictions, the RB is gonna give you the most potential. You can start with a stock tune and upgrade as you go.

i was waiting for l-dubs answer, as he races, although everones input counts lots to me! the gt class is all out cars, i could go production, but my mods on the car already exceed the limits there, some cars in the class are full tube with fiberglass bodies, and are very fast. im really gonna have to look into if i have to stick with the l series, there is a 350z that have the old school L, and one with the new v6!! go figure. and a toyota with a v8 350
