Lighter

83 280ZX I need to replace the lighter assembly in my car. There was a toggle switch there from the PO.There are two wires ther from the toggle switch tha goes to the engine area near the batt. One of them has an inline fise.could I use the two wires and go to the batt for power? If I did should I retain the inline fuse.Should the fuse go to the pos. or neg.

Are all the original wires for the lighter gone or are they still hanging around in there? If you got a wiring diagram, you can just get some wire and rewire that sucker. If you're going to use the wires already in there, make sure the fuse is the same rating as the original for the lighter and it should be inline with the positive side. I'd recommend rewiring in it's original configuration though. Maybe someone can get you a diagram copy if you don't have one already.

Good luck.

The fuse always goes to the positive side of the battery.

He probably left the original lighter wires intact just hanging behind the stereo bezel.

If you don't re-use the extra wires, make sure you disconnect it from the battery so it's not flopping around back there waiting to short out on something.
