"Hesitation" fix (kinda long)
"Hesitation" fix (kinda long)
Alright, i've fixed up my interior, upgraded my audio, and am working on the exterior of my car. I like how the project is coming together, however as many people claim thier late model Z's, it has a problem with low end hesitation.
My car is depressingly slow off the line and has been victim to a few saturn
, many hondas, and virtually every car i've raced in the last month or so. So now im turning to a solution to this problem and aiming for some power increase. After searching around this is what i have found to be some of the best highmileage fixes. I'd assume the tranny is the prime culprit but it has no more then 5k on it from a fresh rebuild.
So this is what I propose to do to this automatic humiliation:
Replace PCV Valves,
upgrade to Stillen K&N Intake,
replace fuel filter,
clean injectors,
clean TPS,
clean throttle bodies
change plugs.
**Note: Im trying to avoid high priced upgrades such as the HKS ALC II, i'm just looking to fix or restore the stock components, and the Stillen K&N is the most I plan on upgrading for awhile (figuring ill save that money for an engine swap instead of this 150K N/A)
The car just had some work done on it where they cleaned the points on the MAS, and replaced the timing belt so i've removed those from my list.
I was just wondering if there are any other things i should consider trying to remove this hesitation, if anyone has any input. Also, i've been looking into a 5 speed tranny swap, Ive only found info on which trannys will work and things to replace, but not much info about how to do the swap, and even the info on TT.net is vauge as to the steps to take. Im just looking for a list of parts needed and things that needed to be added/changed out/moded in the process (Like clutch peddle installation, etc). If anyone has done this i'd like to PM you or if anyone has any good info on this it'd be helping me out a lot, seems like detailed information on this swap is far and few between.
Thanks

I think you want to clean your IAV, not your TPS............
Other recommendations:
Go thru all major electrical connections, clean & check.
Check very closely for vaccum leaks, everywhere. There was a small hose on mine from the fuel damper to the plenum that was slightly cracked.
If you're getting in deep enough, clean out your egr tubes and do a vaccum check on your egr valve. You get a ecu code when the egr solenoid malfunctions, you get nothing but a vaccum leak when the egr valve or hose goes bad.
Make sure ignition timing is correct.
For a piece of mind, do a compression test while you have the plugs out.
Adjust the slack out of your throttle cable.
Maybe try the seafoam deal....... I regularly run f/i cleaner thru a tank of gas at each oil change. I won't do the seafoam myself.

Yea, i ment the TPS connector, it was recommended on TT.net as a frequent problem with hesitation problems, what is the IAV? Thanks for the additional input too.
What's an AIV?
Ok, i pulled out all the paperwork of whats been worked on in the last year and a half, it turns out that the TPS had corrosion on it, and was cleaned, the timing belt was seen as "looked fairly new", the IAC wiring was repaired and i guess cleaned in that process, the contacts on the MAS were cleaned, and the contacts on the O2 sensors were cleaned as well. The timing was ok, there were no fuel leaks found and no vacuum leaks were found. So I guess heres the revised list of stuff:
Replace PCV Valves,
upgrade to Stillen K&N Intake,
replace fuel filter,
tighten throttle cable
clean injectors,
clean throttle bodies
change plugs
and maybe try out the seafoam thing.
I figure ill probably pay a shop to do the EGR *Save me the hassle and the fingers, afterall i had the same prob w/ my 240 and i gave up halfway through the job cause it was impossible*
Besides these components, are there anymore that should be considered??

The AIV is a an emission control device nissan equiped on the Z32. It takes fresh air from your intake and dumps it into your exhaust when the computer tells it too. I guess it helps dilute the exhaust gases.
Since your car is an automatic..you might want to consider changing automatic transmission fluid. When was the last time it changed?

In my search for a solution to my hesitation problems, I found the following link which was quite instructive..
http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/hesitation/hesitation.html
The advice below seems quite good as well. Also if you have any air leaks, the following link to a testing device might be helpful.

Thanks. I found that one, and this one as well Http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/FA...hesitate2.html for anyone who also suffers from this problem
