Removing Ignition Switch???
I have a 1995 Mercury Tracer that I need to replace the ignition switch attached to the steering collumn, because some of the internals are broken. I got the steering cover & dash cover off & I can see all around the switch... but I can't figure out how to remove it. I've searched the web & haven't found any useful info. There are two rivet style studs on the top, that connect both sides.... there's no nuts or bolts to remove it.
Anyone know how to pull off these style ignition switches? I've got pics at home that I can attach tonight if needed. |
drill out the rivets, its a security thing, they did that to make it harder, , if you can see the back then you can put a bolt thru

So... after talking w/ a mechanic neighbor, I found out the easiest way to remove these types of steering locks (ignition switches). Get a Dremmel w/ a small cutting wheel, and cut a slice through the head of the bolt... then put a punch on the edge & whack it w/ a hammer to loosen it... then you can just unthread it w/ a flathead screwdriver. Went to the Pick n Pull today... and WA-LA! Now I just gotta swap the lock assembly.
Anyway... just an FYI for anyone that might come across this bastage of a problem. https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...witchoncar.jpg https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...nswitchout.jpg |
Ah, the dremel. Mans second best friend.
