So I was finaly able to get my moms old Fiat X1/9 out of storage. Man its looking nasty. Its been parked since 85 and up until 02, it was garaged. After that it sat under a tree till now. It had its motor rebuilt in 84 and all it needs now are 4 tires, front brakes, tune up and new fluids and shes ready to go . . .plus 19 years backed reg? That one is gunna hurt the pocket book. Now I can focus a lot more time and effort on my Z and use the money I save on gas to put in to the project!

looks like there might be a decent car under all that crap. shouldnt be too bad once you clean the tree junk off.

yeah give the poor thing a bath

That is awesome Apollo! I miss my old X1/9's so much.
Do yourself a favor though before you drive it. This is based on the experience of owning 6 of those little guys... Replace all the fuel lines (Fire is bad) and even though it may have been new when the car was parked... Replace the timing belt. It's not that hard to do, I'm sure it is quite brittle after 19 years, and if it breaks... Tony won't be able to Fix It Again.

By the way, did you see that episode of Mythbusters recently where they stuck that poor little X1/9 between two oncoming tractor trailers? It was very sad. Poor little guy never stood a chance.:(

Yea, I plan to scrub it up real good once I get it up and running. When I get to the motor I will go through and make sure everything checks out and replace most, if not all the hoses. Im juiced because its going to save me so much in gas, and with december right around the corner that makes me very eager to push myself to get it done.

I started work on the X1/9 today. Mostly going through and making a list of what I need for the engine/fuel systems. Then I had time to take the carb off and clean it up real good and oil all moving parts/linkage. Its going to be a fun mini project. On a different note, I dont have the pink yet and the ID tag for the year make and model found on the door jam is gone. So I dont even know what year it is. Any idea Rod? Is there a way to tell between all the years?

RodMoyes 11-12-2005 12:02 AM

Not sure what year that is Apollo. I know that since it has the Weber carb set up that it has to be a '74-77. In '78 They went to a slightly bigger displacement and switched over to Bosch Fuel Injection.

RodMoyes 11-30-2005 03:19 PM

Don't be baggin' on the FIAT's man...
Remember that when the CEO of Ferrari cashes his paycheck that it reads "Fiat Automobilia Italiano" across the top of that check.:D
