what makes the 240z so light?
The 280ZX wasn't all that heavy considering all the extras it came with and the
government required safty items. The ZX had a lot of power items like windows
and door locks, more comfortable seats and many things the 240 never came with.
It had injection , more saftey items , heavier duty rear end and 5 speed transmission. The list could go on and on. The 240 and the 280ZX were
built for different driver markets.

I was just talking to someone about this yesterday. I agree, the ZX isn't that much heavier when you strip all of the luxury items out of it and what not. I've also read the torsional rigity is slightly better than the 1st gens too.
i ask this question b/c i am wondering on the weight of my zx now (it is stripped). in my car i have light plastic(?) seats, 6 pt. rollcage, aluminum center dash w/ just speedo and a few switches, no heavy bumpers, and either than that it is bare. btw, all non essential engine bay stuff was thrown out. (tons of crap)

My guess is your car would be around 2200 to 2300 pounds.

I believe this thread originally started out as why is the 240 so light , and not what
does a 2 +2 280ZXT weigh . What you are asking is kind of off topic for this section, also you have left every variable possible open. It could be in race trim, passenger trim , hauing Grandmas groceries trim.
If you are asking what the stock weight is then go to the board that lists 280ZX higher up on the home page , and post it with those guys who actually drive one.
I would really not like to turn the racing forum into a theoretical weight section for non racing questions .
Thanks,
Mike
