F Prepared classing information

Hey All.
I just tool a look at the Phoenix SCCA national tour , and noticed that the BMW
M3 of Chris Cox ran in A prepared and not
F. I was concerned that this car was in the wrong class when they put it in FP . Does anyone have a 2004 rule book that lists where it is classed now.

I was planning on using the 260 with an L26 in FP , and didn't really want to compete with the Bimmer :)

BTW ... the 914-6 of Gullick is in my region , so I would get some idea of what to expect .

Chris just ran AP so he would have some competition. He was originally registered in FP along with his codriver/wife(?) and no one else. He's run AP a fair amount at bigger west coast events. In the contingency prize game there are typically minimum entry levels that your class must have to qualify. Hoosier will only award free tires for 5 or more in class (at Tours, Pros and Nationals). So if you can win, it makes sense to bump up...

Now... if Gullicks 914 isn't enough to scare you away, I wouldn't run from Cox's M3. Those are the 2 fastest FP cars in the country and one is not substantially better than the other... it all boils down to the nut behind the wheel... and there are some damn good nuts that drive those cars! ;)

On a side note I did write a letter to the Solo Events Board requesting they increase the weight on the M3s to 2300 (currently 2200). The other 3.0+ liter cars in the class have to weigh 2300 with the exception of the 3.0 & 3.2 911 at 2250#, but they are still 2 valve engines... I havn't heard anything official on that though... If I can't go fast enough to catch em, I'll make them slow down! :)

Thanks Tom !!

I was wondering if that was what he was doing . I almost bought a DMod car that the guy ran in EMod for the freebie tires :)

I did notice that the Bimmer did have a weight break for some reason. We discussed running a NA Z32 , but it had to weigh more then the M3 for the same displacement .

M3's vs. Z's

Tom I feel that you can beat the BMW's and 914's. the first day's runs at Tokepa this year are of significance. You were mighty close to them, actually on top of them. The way Cox pulled away the next day, and he did, is to me not clearly understood. Maybe Cox saw something that others didn't.

Thanks for the vote of confidence John! I'm still trying to catch those German car guys. The big go-fast project of this winter is a new paint job! No longer will I look dingy parked next to you! I figure I'll psych them out that way... What do you think? ;)

I've also got a new co driver for the year. He was within a half second of me the first time in the car, so I think he will push me pretty hard all season!

Tom
