soo heres a werid question involving a trooper

so i am trying to find something a bit better to daily because the subaru isnt cuttin it any more.

theres a trooper for sale, 91 ls 5spd, has a real bad rod knock.
the engine in it is a 2.8L gm 60 degree. i cant find any replacment engines for it, they have all been clunkerized. 3.1's and 3.4's swap into it fine but kind of a similar problem cant find any that will work because the majority of those are FWD engines and they are different (mounts and locations and everything) than RWD ones.

pop has a 4.3L V6, people say the 2.8's are swapable, like direct plug n play but i'd like to find some info on it some more and its not a widely common swap.

does any one know any thing about this sort of thing?
preferably with a trooper?

So the one you are looking at is a 4x4, not FWD right? Is there a reason you can't rebuild that motor? I imagine you are thinking "If I'm going to pull the motor, I might as well upgrade" right?

4x4wire has lots of info on that kind of stuff... you checked them? http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/postli...=0&Board=UBB86

yea pretty much, i've tracked down a 3.4l out of a v 6 camaro for $450 thats a good runner with warranty.

we;d have to pull the motor any way and its also quite a heavy car, there might be some other, cheap upgrades done to it as well

the Fireo's also used a 60 degree V6. those are easy finds.

yea dad was tellin me that except the problem is that its transverse, like a FWD car, because of its engine location to the drive wheels so i cant use those because they mount differently than a longitudal car (RWD wngine in front)

rangers? seriously? a ford using a GM engine, thats funky.

i called arround and i found our local screw you over junk yard (which is like the only one arround any more) has a 94 camaro with a 3.4L V6 which is a much better engine than the 2.8 plus i'll get better gas milage with it. they want $450, they say its a "known good working engine" but they wouldnt give me compression numbers which is bothersome. i need all 4 cylinders to be arround 220 PSI

its a pretty easy swap, pull 2.8 out, put 3.4 in, put 2.8 intake on 3.4 with 4.3 TBI, bore intake to match ports with TBI, swap starter sides, swap TPS or swap to newer connector, swap oil pan and pickup from 2.8 to 3.4, add fluids and start up

my 84 ranger 4x4 has a 2.8 v6 thats a 60degree..some of the old mustangs used the same engine as well. as far as it being a gm engine your guess is better then mine.

well i went back to talk to the lady, before she said she really just wanted it off the property as soon as possible...

this time arround i made an offer of $300 to see where shes wanting to meet in the middle and she said she wont let it go for any less than $500 because her "friend thats thinking about buying it" offered atleast that much...this friend has been thinking about bying this thing for about a month now.

so shes not really interested in selling it so i didnt push my next offer of $400. when some one says they have cash there and can have the car gone within the hour and the person says they just want it gone ASAP, you might negoiate right?

$300 was the feeler offer and besides, for $500 i could buy a Cherokee with a 4.0 HO and a 5 spd, although a bit smaller, it doesent need any work to get road worthy.

i'm calling the jeep ad tommorow
