we do. What did you think I would do?

I removed all the other threads but that's not enough. We need you folks to fill their email with spam as a punishment for their crime.

ok snw, if it changes gears automatically it is called a automatic transmission, REGARDLESS of what mechanism is used to change the gears, if it is changed automatically without human assistance it is an auto...

in general speaking yes, but DSG and SMG need human input to know when to shift, they all run on padle shifters. while there is no clutch and just a mere flick of a wrist SMG is a manual gear box with an electronically controlled clutch and much faster shifting mechanism but you still have to tell it when. DSG is its own design that BMW invented, not a manual gear box or auto. i forget how it works but i think it is a bit more along an auto's principles compared to a manual. and while ill also agree the true manual is getting fazed out its still in this case at least on a 300ZX a better option. because people will beat them and unless its a racing tranny a normal auto tranny wont take abuse. the 5spd however is bullet proof. synchros will go clutches will go but in the end they will be cheaper to replace 2-3 times than it is to replace an auto. and yes ive owned nothing but manual cars other than my toyota (which didnt last a full year) so i have been in chicago stop and go traffic with one many times for 3+ hours. even though its annoying because all you think of is "oh god my clutch must be hating me" but its definatlt do able and when you are stoped you dont have to keep your foot mashed on the brake either. and their problems are MUCH simpler to diagnose and fix.

i can agree on diagnosing a manual tranny is easier, i have over heated and almost literally took it to the edge of hell and back without so much of a hickup now dont get me wrong i love my 5spd's but the auto's or atleeast the ones ive used have taken every bullet, burnout, neutral, reverse-first slamming and have over heated it many times without ANY problems..
