the only mustang i like is a 89-92 5.0 and i would set it up for road racing..
but you could take $1k off my asking price and then make payments? but the title will still be in my name until it is paid in full, we would have a written, signed and notarized contract..

Personally if it were me I would go for the Mustang because they're a lot cheaper and easier to modify to go fast than almost any import car I've ever seen (parts availability 2nd to none), and the '87 Mustang GT was a 150mph car right off the showroom floor. If all you want is a daily driver, the Z31 would most likely be more economical to drive, and handle about as good as a stock GT.

Plenty of CARB smog legal mods for the 5.0, so that's really a non issue, maintenance difference would be the price of 2 additional spark plugs at tune up time, and maybe an extra quart of oil lol. Anymore cops down in So Cal like to mess with anything that looks cool or sounds good (sucks lol). The only way I found to get the cops to leave me alone when I lived down there was to drive a Chevy Sprint metro lol. Needless to say I'm glad I left So Cal and moved to eastern Oregon, no smog checks, and hardly any cops once you get outside of Klamath Falls. I think we only have something like 6 Sheriffs deputy's and 3 or 4 State Troopers to cover over 6,000 sq miles (no eye in the sky either), and that's total officers so they're not all on duty at the same time unless somebody robs a bank or something lol.

not routine maint. but when the ford starts living up to its name it can be a real bitch, also i wasnt talking about smog legal mod's i was talking about getting it to pass in general, especially with all the new laws that are about to set in place in a few more years.

Yeah I see what you mean, afterall we never see any questions about problems with Z's do we. From what I've seen over the years, it seems the people that complain about Ford's reliability, are usually the same type of people that would have reliability problems with a bicycle due to lack of maintenance, and abusive driving habits which normally would cause similar reliability problems with any vehicle reguardless of make. Don't get me wrong, I do like my ZX's and one of my friends has a really sweet 300ZX TT that's probably got around $8k-$10k in mods that I'd love to have (even though it's currently broke down again), but I think the Ford 302/5.0 developed into one of the best engines available durin it's production run. Parts for it are very affordable if something goes wrong, and most garages can work on them if the owner doesn't have the knowlege or time to do it theirself. Where as I know of several garages around here that won't even attempt to work on my friends 300ZX TT. I have trouble trying to find stock parts for my 280ZX, let alone aftermarket parts for modifying anything on it without going to price gouging Z specialty stores, but I can order anything I could ever imagine buying for a 302/5.0 from discount speed shops like Summit, or PAW. I can get an aftermarket camshaft for a 302 for $100 or less depending on the brand, yet for my ZX the only off the shelf camshaft's I've been able to find are over $250, and then after paying to much for it, the brand new cores they are using wear out way faster than the stock Nissan cams did, and you have to buy new lashpads to make it fit correctly??? Since they are using a fresh cam core, why can't they make a new cam to match the factory base circle specs? lol

the only car i have seen catch on fire are fords, and the fact you think you could buy your z back is another thing, fact is once its sold its sold. the person, friend or not, that buys it may be un willing to sell it back to you and frankly if it a car he paid for and he doesent want to its his right to refuse you.
frankly if i just bout a z for hella cheap from some guy wanting to buy a mustang i wouldnt sell the z back to him. i say to him "eh essay, go get yo own zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz"

matter of opinion there, i just dont like em period but thats my opinion.
i'm not to picky when it comes to cars, no fords,no honda's unless it something worth while (origonal preludes), no volkswagens unless its something80's and older.
i would buy a yugo before i bought a ford

'64 1/2 to '73 1/2, the only Mustangs that are true to their name. After that they were never an original pony car. Of course I will give credit to the newer ones, going back to the older body style look. But they are still not the original Mustang that it was. And by the way my sister has an original '64 1/2 Mustang with just over 70k miles. Oh and it's a hardtop with the rare 260 V8 engine.
