i just realized that the guy in the video was telling the driver of the tahoe to keep it in first in traffic... HTF does that help? if the car wants to up shift, let it!

 

No... he's telling him to downshift to first when coming to a stop ("shift to first, foot on the brake, turn off car @ 1100rpm").

Downshifting is like an engine brake & with your foot off the throttle it's using the least amount of fuel to keep the engine rotating.

 

oh yea i watched it again and realized i put words into his mouth over night lol. but it does seem that it would be better to go right to neutral and cut it off to slow down
