How was your first Ebay purchase?

Well I made my first Ebay purchase a few days ago for what was advertised as a new shake and shine flash light...don't ask....anyway I got it today. It was packaged pretty well and I was pretty excited to receive the package...well the flashlight is totally messed up!! There is a big hole in the body of the flashlight, the lens is all scratched up as well as some other parts of the flashlight. The wires inside are not connected to anything and are TAPED to the inside of the flashlight, the magnet that is supposed to go back and forth when you shake it is not a magnet but is in fact a hunk of metal. There was no package for the flashlight even though it is supposed to be NEW!!!

I am upset but not that upset...I do want my NEW flashlight though. I have emailed this seller but have got no response yet....I hope he does the right thing but if not, I am looking forward to the negative feedback I will be leaving him....cause that will make it all better :paranoid: Man, I have gotten screwed over alot this past week.

NismoPick 02-28-2007 12:59 PM

How good is the seller's feedback? Post the item page so we can inspect. :D

naviathan 02-28-2007 01:12 PM

Yeah sounds like you just happened to get hit by one of the eBay scam artists. They're fun...yeah...Watch out for feedback ratings. I won't go with anyone that has a feedback rating lower than 98% or less than 50 feedbacks.

thxone 02-28-2007 01:22 PM

Here it is....he has a good rating so I didn't pay it no mind that I was gonna get dry humped in the arse:

This is what I was supposed to get:

Interesting... 100% feedback. You can request his personal contact info from ebay. That way you can call him on the phone. Ebay will send you an email w/ his info, and in turn send his your contact info.

Info on requesting contact ph#: http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/quest...ct-seller.html

Form to do it: http://search.ebay.com/ws/search/Adv...ndtype=9&pfid=

You can also file a claim via PayPal (if you used paypal to pay).

thxone 02-28-2007 01:30 PM

I actually did send him an email as soon as I opened the box...I have got no response yet.....I did take several pics of the item just in case this is a scam as he has another (same) flashlight listed already...thanks for the links, I will get the info directly.

SportBikeMike 02-28-2007 01:39 PM

Yep....its always buyer beware with ebay unfortunately. I recently bought a Nismo suspension kit for my 350Z off ebay......and they sent me a suspension kit for a 240SX instead. Now I'm in the process of sending it back and trying to get a refund. Its nice to know you can file a claim with Paypal if need be.

Bleach 02-28-2007 01:46 PM

yup, and after you receive payment via paypal, mail out the item and the buyer receives it they can just do a stop payment on the payment and steal your product. PayPal is also scary

Only if you don't have a verified Paypal accnt. Paypal payments are instant once verified. Tho along that line, REFUNDS do take several days to process & the one needing to refund can withdraw all moneys from their accnt before the transaction is completed. Yes... that happened to me once. :D

snwbrderphat540 02-28-2007 01:57 PM

meh, yes and no, i withdraw those funds as soon as recieved, but paypal will really deal well with people, and if needed, just dent the shit out of the other persons credit and refund you. adn ps, why did you get that flash light? i hear they are crap. lol

Not true homie... Paypal isn't a collection agency for people who skip out on payments, mail out bad items, etc. The only time they would turn your accnt to a collection agency, is when you don't pay your paypal fees.

SportBikeMike 02-28-2007 02:05 PM

The company I bought my suspension kit from is an established Nismo dealer that I have bought from before and has a 100% positive feedback rating with over 4000 transactions.....so I assume they'll send me a refund check as soon as they get their product back. But still nice to know you can file a claim w/ Paypal....just in case they're uncooperative....

In response to why did I buy that flashlight...it is as follows: 1. I work on my stuff in the dark alot and I usually have a handy flashlight around so I can see without waisting electricity from running a chord to a halogen work light. 2. I am getting tired of buying batteries every time I work on something. 3. I thought it would be cool to just have to shake it if I needed more light or use the two 2032 sized watch batteries if I got sick of shaking it....and an LED bulb rarely needs to be changed. The work I am usually doing is inside the car so a hot ass Halogen would just piss me off when I kept burning myself on it and I would loose my temper and probably kick ooot my windshield or something childish like that and then kick myself in the sac after I realized what I did over a small little burn....see, it was gonna save me some grief.

i get the reasoning, but just sayin you could do better. the shake lights only last one 40 seconds at full shine then start to dull somewhat rapidly in my experience. yes experience. you can get a LED flash light that has multiple rows and columns of LED's is retardidly bright and lasts for hours and hours and hours of use. thats all.

thxone 02-28-2007 02:16 PM

I agree Snw...I will be shopping locally for a good quality flashlight Friday...something with a swivel head and broad base like my old trusty, now dead flashlight. I am not letting this situation leave a bad taste in my mouth like the Cassidie thing or stop me from shopping on Ebay...all in all I am cool but a little wiser I guess.

snwbrderphat540 02-28-2007 02:21 PM

do you work outside? or do you have an outlet handy? cuase my dad got an LED shop/drop light. thing is pretty sweet.
or my frieng has a small hand held flash light that can like blind your ass. lol. you could also get those flood lights the 2 heads on a stand that have 2 halogen bulbs in them a piece, really bright pretty warm. stand on their own.

Yeah, I work outside...no outlet. I was looking into a headband flashlight like the one I used when I installed car stereos in Ga but that was off a Matco truck and cost near $80. But it had different colored led's depending on what you wanted to work on...White, Red, Yellow. It was very bright and always shined where you wanted it to cause it was on my forehead.

if you dont like buying batteries, get some quality Ni-Mh rechargeables. they charge quick and last forever. i had the same set of 4 2500mAh AA size in my camera for my entire japan trip and didnt charge them once. and my camera is a power hog, it'll kill alkalines in an hour or so.

snwbrderphat540 02-28-2007 05:50 PM

not cool guys... not cool. my sig and avatar... real funny. ha ha

i8acobra 02-28-2007 06:02 PM

I've been on eBay since '99 and only been screwed twice. Once as a seller and once as a buyer. Total loss... $200. I've saved more than $200 vs. buying in the store though, so I figure I'm still ahead of the game.

z-hag 02-28-2007 07:03 PM

thxone--when ya buy one of those "jackoff" flashlites, they do not look tha tbad, and they only work for a coupla weeks--the cheep ones--there are some spensive ones tha tlast longer, but i bought 4 of the smaller version in pink so they would not get stolen--but thety did nt work long enuff to be steelable.........always looking fo ralternative power stuff on boats......
