Doing the Unthinkable

I hate to say it guys, but I'm thinking about getting rid of my Datsun and buying some good ol American muscle. Maybe a Mustang or Camaro or maybe even that Corvette I've been lusting after. I guess the lack of bolt on upgrades is getting to me, pretty much everything I want to do with the car I have to fabricate and that's just not as appealing to me as I thought it would be. Now that I dont have a good place to park it and work on it, I need something that I can drive while I do the work. I might have to keep the gutted carcass around for a while since no one seems to want it but I'll probably get rid of it. This is one of those big decision times in my life and I know it. I know you guys are strongly biased but I'd love to hear some opinions. Thanks.

Ah, damn it, another lost to american muscle. I'd personally just upgrade to something newer w/ more potential, like some Nissan from the 90's. I don't think I could ever bring myself to drive a domestic, there isn't one in the world that I can afford that I would want to drive. Sorry, but just my opinion.

imho, you definitely get the best bang for the buck on the good 'ol american muscle.... The dilema with that nowadays is that you either have to pay alot for a decent vehicle to upgrade, or you have to do, close to, a full resto............ and I'd rather drive............. ....... I am still thinking about what car I'd like to drop a nice new fuel injected small block into.

Here is what the debate is all about:

1968 Ford Mustang Convertable, 390 Big Block and Eleanor Body Kit

1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28, mostly stock

1969 Chevrolet Corvette Convertable, ZL-1 427 Big Bock, ZL-1 Clone Paint scheme. (I would Never paint mine like this one, however it does have the wheels and sidepipes that I like)

I know that anything I get wont look nearly as nice as these cars, but that's the whole idea of a project car isn't it? I have no doubt that any one of these will keep me more than occupied for a few years just on restoration. Dont get me wrong I love the looks of the datsun and the little but that I did get to drive it I really liked, however the project car that I got isn't what I need right now. I'll keep my eyes open for another Datsun, but I thought I'd warn you guys that I might be lost forever.

GO VETTE

Thats one car I still desire.......... non-convertible. On the Camaro......... I like that body style too. They were great Trans-Am cars. For Cali, '75's are now smog exempt, so that style is in a range of cars for me to consider.

Mustangs............. a dime a dozen.............

That's part of the appeal, I can get all kinds of parts for it! The Vette would be sweet, but the prices I'm looking at are borderline outrageous!

...erk..you didnt hear me say this...but...that Rustang looks pretty good...almost good enough for me to drive it....or maybe even own one...ah!! what am I saying?!!!

I wouldn't really go for the camaro or the vette, but thats just personal preference. The color and lines on that stang are pretty clean tho, I would have to practically make a ripoff replica of that one to even consider it tho..

tough one, but damn that elanor would look sweet if it wasnt a 'vert. and i hate ford, so thats a big compliment. the vette is nice, drop top and all. lastly, and only in the looks (imo) is the z28, thats a bad ****. i love the '70.5 best. thats the best camaro i think, and worth a ton if it has the 302dz. but z cars are all sexxy as hell too, so its a toughy.

Hey CC I have argued this with people time and time again. Camaro's are not Firebirds Trans Ams. Whatever, and vise versa, I get so tired of people that called my Firebird a Camaro! And yes I was insulted! The whole reason I got the Firebird is because I wanted a Firebird. If I wanted a Chevy I would take the Camaro. Get my point, and in my opinion Firebird and Trans Am has always looked better than a Camaro or Z28. Hands down, better detailed interior, better body lines and a meaner look. Anyway just my opinion. BTW I own 2 Pontiacs, by my signature, and those are muscle cars I am prowd to own!

Dude, What are you talking about? He was saying how the Camaros were good in the Trans Am RACING SERIES. and Yes, technically there are Camaro Trans Ams out there, its just that they happen to be full spec race cars.

You guys ever seen one of these?

lol............ didn't mean to insult you............ Chewievette got the point on the Trans Am aspect. I've always liked the look of the Pontiac versions of the cars, over the Chevy versions too.

............ and, the Camaro and the Trans Am are the same basic car. They were mostly all built in a plant in Van Nuys, Calif. Some were also built in Canada. That is until the early 90's, or so, when GM shut down the van nuys plant and moved all of the dwindling production to Canada. But that's all old news.

btw Wildman............ where do you work in Mesa? I used to build Apaches........

When I come across a deal on one of these..........

or an El Camino of the same year range............. it'll be SOLD to me
