demolition durby tips/tricks
Yup the title says it all.. i'm entering the antelope valley fair demolition durby. does anyone have any tricks to help out like adding a second gear selector and throttle and pinching off the back brakes? i need as much help as i can i've never done a durby and need some tips on building a car any thoughts and ideas are welcome!!!!

try to not let teh front end get hit, thats the number one strategy, hit people with your rear end into their front, thats how people loose crack the radiator and teh engine siezes. drive in reverse basically.

we all use prolong lub to keep the motors from siezing up when the radiators crack it seemed to work for the other guys pretty good...

im just saying, i heard it from a profesional on tv one time or another, and you can even watch jackass the movie (the first one) and you'll notice they all use their rear ends.

so basically i'm using a 81 lincoln continental 2 door..... 351w i'm gonna hammer the part where the trunk and rear window meet to make sure it bends up when the rear end gets hit rather than down. pinch the back brakes so there is less to keep the car moving at all times, chain and weld everything shut, 1/4 metal chicken wire across drivers door window and half the windshield, strip the car of anything and everything...run lucas oil stabilizer to help protect the bearings...add second throttle and gear selector etc.... anything else otehr ideas?

so when at first it was very exciting i'm coming down and looking at what this has caused. i know the derby would be fun. i picked up the car and gutted it almost completely. got it to start after much needed wire repair. than it hit me its affecting the people around me. my family is all excited and can't wait to watch the derby. but it hit me hard when my finance made it a big deal.... what do i do tell her to get over it and keep working, and enjoy the derby. shes mostly mad becasue she thinks i'm putting it before school and getting a new job and finding a new place to live...... pictures to come....

You got a Red Cattle Dog mate? didnt think they had reached the US.
My advice would have been to use a smaller cooler engine. A big V8 is going to overheat quickly without a radiator. |

Well I'm glad you're not using the Z in the demolition derby....unlike that damn movie 'Herbie: Fully Loaded" where they actually had a 280Z down there during the demolition derby scene. Makes me mad thinking about it!! Damn Hollywood!!

a little update on the car took the dash out the car no longer starts. so i went out and got a different distributor with a set of point to replace my complicated electronic ignition system. to go along with that i also had to find a different carburetor to get rid of my fuel level sensors and my electric slid choke and everything that comes with a variable venturi carb. i'm gonna swap in distributors tomorrow and hopefully she'll start. the car has like a total of 4 wires and absolutly nothing in it more fun to smash huh? i'll keep you posted pictures soon!

u can throw inside of a egg in the rad. it stops leaks in a rad. saw it on myth busters
When there is a leak in a car radiator, cracking an egg into the radiator will plug the hole. plausible The engine was started after the contents of an egg were poured in, and the leak stopped. cant get any cheaper then that |

doubt it will cook that fast. if anything it will float or sink. will eventually u will get a front hit. then the rad sure to eventually get a crack. but im sure their are some derby forums that have pros opinions and suggestions.

do you not need to put a rollcage? looks wicked.

just need a brace that spans from post to post behind the doors and one across the drivers door thats it.... now if i can jsut find a distributor to fit the piece of shit

haha if only it was old and worn out. the car doesn't even have 100000miles on it yet and way to complicated to use for a derby but i'll make it work!

i got extra bored today and my fiance was over wth me today helping e witht eh car we chained the seat down and swapped carbs AGAIN! and than we decided to paint.. what do ya'll think for my first paint job
