Keep your anti-virus up to date... don't download files from an unknown source... and freaking use Firefox with Adblock Plus.

One of my computers got trashed by a pop-up installing worm last fall... effin biotches!

I use Firefox every day... if by chance I open up IE to do something, I notice a huge slowdown in online activity. So much overhead in Microsoft products.

It's a plugin: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

Install & then you need to import the USA list.

running that ^^^^ and McAffee and spybot, updating all. yeah im good. i might even install this software my buddy uses, it allows NO ACCESS to his computer by ANY outside or inside source haha. keeps his speeds up and computer safe but its super annoying when you want to use certain programs that use the internet and you have to approve every single ones access.... forget what its called though.

Mcaffee and Norton are Jokes and system hogs to boot. If you want a slower computer, by all means, use them.

Firefox
NOD32
SpywareBlaster
Sygate Personal Firewall Pro
O&O Defrag Pro 10
CCleaner

Firefox addons: this is what I run;

Adblock Plus 1.0.1
Adblock Filterset.G Updater 0.3.1.3
CustomizeGoogle 0.76
Greasemonkey 0.8.20090123.1
Paste and Go 2 0.8
Compatibility Overridden

I do not have intrusions, viruses, Trojans, spyware or anything. I do not keep anything on my desktop that has to be rendered like folders and shortcucts. I use quick launch. Here are some pics, notice that with a couple of windows open I am at 23 processes and ONLY 252megs of memory used. She runs like a dream.

norton and mccaffe are also bad because they are so common that most of the viruses made are made to get around nortons and mccaffe. when i switched back from mccaffe to avg again, avg had a lot of cleaning up to do. and avg is free. avg ftw. avg

Sweetheart, you know where I live...send me your lappies and I will make them like new. Memory can help but first the underlying problems must be found and dealt with. Dell = Doo Doo unless it's an XPS. The only Laps I would own would be HP, Sony and Mac Power books. These three are just way less of a hassle than most other brands. Firefox rocks...I have only ever had one issue with it and it was my fault. The Firefox stuff I talked about are addons...just things to help the web browsing experience less stressful than IE.

Avast with Ad-Aware here. Both work excellent and are free. They catch trojans and viruses immediately. And of course I am running Firefox.
