Console Lid Replacement

I have purchased a new console lid for my 1988 300zx. The console cushioned arm (elbow) rest comes attached to vinyl plate with many screws . I have removed these screws from the existing console and the vinyl frame remains. Although I could just screw the new padding onto old existing vinyl frame I'd rather replace the whole unit. There are metal retaining clips attached to plastic hinges. How do I remove the entire unit without damaging anything?

Going off the 87 FSM, BF section page 16/ 53 it is held together with double sided tape, so cutting it with a thin sharp knife, or possible using a heat gun to get the adhesive to soften up, you can pick one fairly inexpensively at harbor freight.

Btw, you should post in the z31 normal area, not the for sale section, no biggie though, Nismo may move your thread.

Looks like page BF-16 in your Factory Service Manual (FSM) (Download it free at http://www.xenonz31.com/reference.html plus other hot docs...) shows the entire center console as a single unit which contains the box for your new lid. Are you saying you have a new center console unit? The same diagram shows where the installation screws for that are. Maybe if you remove the rear ones, the box liner will pop out.

Usually somebody has leaned on the open box lid and the screws popped and the lid falls off. Harder to repair because popping the screws strips the ground. If your ground is in good condition, why not just install the new lid?

Maybe you can explain what you're trying to do. Thanks.:039:
