5 speed trans question

Okay, I have a 75 280Z with a transplanted 5 speed in it. Well it always had a bad synchro on 2nd since I've had it. My pressure plate finally took a dump so in addition to doing a clutch kit installation I decided to either rebuild my 5 speed or have someone else do it for me. Anyway, when I pulled it out it has 3 switches on the side of the trans instead of one single back up switch. Anyone familiar with this setup? There were two sets of wires coming down from above but none of the wires have ever been hooked up. Just thought I would ask. Thanks. :102:

Just a guess, but maybe your 5-speed was originally from a 280ZX with cruise control and one of those other switches may be a neutral detection switch... or something :)

Even though my 280ZX had cruise, I only hooked up the backup lights. Oh, and my cruise only worked for a very short time of the 10 years I owned it

only worry about the revers switch. those extra ones are because its from a ZX. they are worthless to you.

so one of them isn't for the extra power boost? :paranoid:

5 speed trans

Finally found my shop manual and have found out there there are, in fact, three switches active on this trans and apparently the 4 speed. First switch, closest to bellhousing is the back up switch. Second one is top gear switch and the last one, in the tailshaft is the neutral switch. So anyone else that runs into this will know what they are used for now, just have to see if all the wiring is available. As long as the back up lamp works is all I really care about. Thanks. :icon_super:
