Hello everyone, I wanted to introduce myself as a new member and long-time lurker of the site. I finally purchased my project car — a 1974 260z. The car came with a lot of extra parts from the previous owner, so I’m excited to start going through everything and planning the build.

I’m currently sorting through all the parts. My first plan is to get it running again. The previous owner said it was running before it was parked, although I can’t remember if he said it’s been sitting for 2 years or 2 months since it last ran. Either way, I’m looking forward to bringing it back to life.

The previous owner also stated the engine was rebuilt about 8 years ago and that he seldom drove it — probably around 500 miles after the rebuild. He mentioned it has a 4-barrel Holley carburetor. In his notes he wrote: 4776-2 650 CFM double pumper. From my research, that seems a little too big for the engine. I see a lot of recommendations for the SU round-top carburetors, but I haven’t decided what my long-term plans are yet. Since he was able to get it running with the Holley setup, my plan for now is to try getting it going as-is.

Does anyone have experience running a Holley setup like this on a 260z? Can it run properly with this carb?

I recently read beg3yrs’ post, and it was really motivating to see the progress and dedication. Looking forward to learning from everyone here and sharing updates on the project along the way.

Chris

I picked up a 1983 Datsun 280zx a few years ago. Couldn't get spark and just let it sit. Finally have time to mess with it and haven't had any luck. I'm ignoring fuel issues where tank was still full of fuel from before me (likely 15-20 years old at this point). Going to need a new fuel tank, sender, pump, lines, whatever. Not important to me currently.

I replaced the coil, but the original coil that came with it still functions fine. I have power at Black w/ White Stripe wire next to coil. The yellow wire in that bundle has 12v with key on, blue wire seems to be nothing. I believe the Power transistor is busted, which would have a blue wire coming out of it with a bullet connector. This wire is missing. ECU has a green light that comes on with key on, turns off when cranking, and quickly comes back when cranking stops. I hear clicking whenever the distributor spins to the next firing position. I currently have a PRW-2 in place, middle pin connected to ground, one pin connected to yellow wire, one pin connected to coil negative(per that one PRW2 image floating around). I did swap yellow and coil negative on PRW-2 just in case I got it backward. If I tap yellow wire with jumper, I get spark.
I hooked a digital oscilloscope to yellow wire and saw high pull with key on, low pull with key off, but the pull didn't appear to change when spinning distributor. I don't know how to read an oscilloscope, but I was able to zoom in on the wave and it just looked like noise really.
Here is a rough drawing of current wiring.
If I break the signal wire manually, I get great spark. It just seems the ECU isn't tell it to ground the signal, allowing the coil to respark. I did remove the ECU and opened it up, did not see any burn marks or anything to indicate it should be bad. I tried the GM HEI module in place of the PRW2, but it didn't seem to do anything at all, less than the PRW2.

I have recorded a 3 minute video showing what I have going on, I talk a lot but I think you should be able to follow it.
My current goal is to hear it run. I had a look at the FSM books, but the troubleshooting doesn't really go into detail on what to do if the ECU isn't breaking the signal. What are my likely suspects here? ECU? Where could I locate a replacement? To a point, this vehicle has to pass a state salvage inspection to drive on the road again, so any major overhauls/deletions might be a problem. Located in Ohio.

So bought a z31 vg30et.been sitting, pulled apart by past owner 20 odd years ago.pulled engine, had been semi pulled apart.I have rebuilt engine, but when engine is on TDC number 1 cylinder.and match the disy chopper wheel to largest cut out slot, which matches notch in disy housing, rotor is pointing to number 3 on cap.(so next segment on cap past number 1 as rotor rotating)disy is mechanically sound.i would have thought with chopper wheel at largest slot and notch on disy housing this would be position to reinstall disy.i have traced segments on cap with ohm meter and are true to label. There was a cap supplied with parts pieces that came with car.have googled cap to match disy numbers and appears correct.i could install with rotor pointing at number 1 cylinder, but chopper wheels tdc hole would not line up with pick up.all I can think of is the cap is not correct, and segments are not correct.only other thing I could think of doing is getting an xtra long set if ht leads and bump them all 1 position.so number 1 lead now goes to the next marked tower(3),and see if it runs? Any body have any idea?cheers

Does anyone know of any good videos or guides on installing a switch board and new relay/fuse box on the 280zx? I have a short somewhere that keeps blowing the ignition fusable link. Ive looked everywhere and I have no clue what the issue is. Finally today I plugged in the battery and got magic smoke from every orifice between the fusabe links and the key on. Specifically the white black wire. Could it simply be a bad key cylinder and I dont need to rewrite everything? I feel like it might be better. Any help is greatly appreciated. (Has ms3 pro mini. Was driving without magic smoke before I changed my intake to protunerz)

Hello all, my second post here. I have figured out the wiring harness and wired in new plugs for the fuel injectors. I am using the cheap Chinese new-type fuel injectors instead of OEM. I have a '91 Nissan NA 2+2 300zx. The car will crank but will not fire/combust. I also replaced the ignition coils. When I first got the car it ran on starter fluid and stalled after 5 miles at a stop. I am about to hook up a OSBD1 cable to check the error codes with ECULink. One big thing I noticed is fuel is not entering the fuel rail, it stops right past the fuel filter and will not go up into the fuel rail and to the injectors. I pulled the pipes later on down the fuel rail from the filter and they are bone dry, no liquid. The fuel pump was replaced and that is how I got the vehicle to run on starter. Any suggestions on what to do next? Anything I should check for with ECULink? I am considering rewiring the harness and putting OEM fuel injectors in, which will be $600 or check the physical ECU for damage, leaking capacitators.

Thanks all.

Hey everyone, I’ve been riding my Yamaha UTV more lately and the wind and dust on longer trails is starting to get a bit uncomfortable. I’m thinking it might be time to add a windshield, but I’m not sure what type or brand actually holds up well in real trail conditions.
While searching around, I came across the Yamaha Wolverine windshield, and it seems like a popular option among riders, but I’m still trying to figure out if it’s worth it compared to other choices.
If anyone here has experience with Yamaha UTV windshields, I’d really appreciate some suggestions on what works best for durability and visibility.

Hello! I’m curious if anyone has the workshop manuals for my 370Z. I’ve never had such trouble finding one for any other car. I personally enjoy understanding how all the components of my vehicle work. Whenever I need a repair or have an idea of what might need fixing, I refer to the manual. I’ve always been able to find it and download it as a PDF workshop manual, but I can’t seem to locate this one anywhere.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
