dash conversion

hi
i was wondering, do you think its possible to convert a 240z's dash to a 260z dash
could i get the console and dash from a 260z and put them into the 240 or am i crazy?
because they used the same body, same frame didnt they?
any suggestions would be useful
cos i think the 240 int is ugly
thanks,
adam.

Re: dash conversion

Seen it done, and it all fits, but why didn't you just buy the 260 in the first place? Why mangle a classic for your poor taste? BUt then again, it gives you the option of air cond, and can always be converted back, so go for it. But what are the big differences you are referring to, very similiar units? DO you have pics of your car? Has something been done to make it look worse than it should?
Cheers Chris

Re: dash conversion

Like Chris I'd also say your being crazy mate! Every man and his dog seems to want the 240Z, particularly in original condition. By putting in the 260 dash you are going to (a) drop it's value, and (b) start to mangle a classic.

If you want aircon and a 260 interior then get yourself a 260Z. Sure it is heavier and less collectable, but the increased weight is due to the increased safety. Being less collectable makes it a preferable car for a modifier who is more interested in an RB swap than returning the car to concourse condition.

Re: dash conversion

It bolts straight in, same mounts and everything, so while it does compromise originality, it can be easily put back if you ever change your mind, but just try and keep the bits you take off. Good luck with the hunt for a Z in good nick, mine's rusted to buggery, but fixing it up should be half the fun (It'll take me half a life time) The reason i asked about the pics, is because i have seen a 240 with a "custom" factory dash, with bits and pieces tacked on, glue everywhere, extra gauges etc all covered in carpet, and it looked terrible. ONce again good luck with your search for the "prefect" Z for you.
Cheers Chris

Re: dash conversion

you've gotta be kidding me you think the 260z dash looks better? I guess each to his own. But i've heard that air con can be put in the 240's

Re: dash conversion

Air con can be fitted to a 240Z. Just last week I saw a complete a/c unit advertised at ozdat.com, and the guy said its a bolt on converstion for both the 240 and the 260. The 240 is a classic, dont pass up the chance to buy one, just coz the dash isnt to you taste.

What everyone else said ... don't pervert the car !!!! you are nutz....

Why not just buy an auto 260Z and swap the transmission over its sooo simple !! all you need is the new pedal box, clutch flywheel and box ... dead simple ... oh and if you want to go fast a different ratio diff

Re: dash conversion

Hi All,

there are reasons why some one may want to change to a 260Z dash in a 240Z, one of them is AC. Yes you can get AC to fit a 240Z, but from what I have seen they are all the aftermarket under glovebox type ones, not the ones which are hidden behind the dash like the factory 260Z ones have.

The other reason is that they may not want to cut up a good 240Z dash, and see that doing so to a 260Z dash would be better (ie to clear the roll cage etc)

Why not buy a 260Z in the 1st place??? Well, maybe something to do with the weight difference, different tail lights, crappy flat top SU carbs etc...

I have fitted a 260Z dash to my 240Z (for all the above reasons) and have kept my 240Z dash stored for a rainy day.
