just joined the 350z ranks! Need help with A/C!

hello everyone! I just joined the 350z ranks and glad to be here! (please forgive if not posted in right area)

2004 350z roadster touring

I get NO cold air at all. blower works fine etc. I dont hear anything kick in etc when I press the a/c button but the belt is always spinning..whether i click a/c or not....Am I looking at the righ thing or am I way off. This car also has an aftermarket air filter on it (scepter, is that good or garbage?) and when I lifted it I saw that it has damaged a cable housing. there was still one wire connected but didnt know if there was supposed to be more...

THANKS SO MUCH!

here is a pic of wire

Welcome to ZDriver!

Check the a/c R134a pressure (the guys at your local parts store have the equiptment to check).

nick731 05-04-2012 07:10 AM

k will do. what is the optimal pressure? thanks! Nick

The basic cheap gauge looks like this. It will have LOW NORMAL and HIGH shown, so just make sure it's in the normal, which I believe is 20-50.

ok I got a recharge it with gauge but when I hooked up the gauge it gave me a reading of approx. 100psi. I realize its very high because that is static pressure, (compressor not running) The system would not even accept any recharge. where do i go from here? thanks! Nick

if you are reading 100 psig static and it is about 86F outside then you have refrigerant in the system, how much is impossible to say, but your compressor should be coming on. check and clean the wire running into it, the wires running into pressure sensors on the refrigerant tubing, and test the circuit breaker for continuity to make sure it is any good. good luck :)

l will do thanks! I have a volt meter, where should I be checking the voltage. at the 'third fuse box' or should i be checking voltage at the motor somewhere? thanks again!

backinzxagain 05-07-2012 06:40 PM

I'm not sure if your z has a breaker or just a fuse, from what i can find on the internet there should be a box behind the battery under the passenger wiper cowl, and the one for the air compressor should be marked. If it is a fuse that's easy to see if it is burned or not, if it is a breaker, pull it out and use the ohm function of the meter to test across the pins. A reading of "0" or close to it is what you want. Hope this helps.

nick731 05-08-2012 07:38 AM

yes it does very much thanks! I will get to that fuse and check it and report back. thanks again!

nick731 05-12-2012 12:56 PM

hey, I just checked the 3rd fuse box, the ac fuse appears to still be good. I checked the Hi/Li fuse (noot knowing if that was the high and low pressure for AC or the headlights) and it IS blown......

backinzxagain 05-12-2012 08:43 PM

use your meter to make sure you are getting power to the fuse, engine on, ac switch on, pull the fuse and stick the red lead in the slots and ground the black lead on the chassis or battery. one of the two slots should have voltage. if so, the next thing to check would be the relay, if not, you need to figure out why you dont have power to the box. I assume replacing the Hi/Li fuse didnt correct the problem or you would have said so. remember, fuses dont normally blow for no reason, make sure to replace it with one of the proper size or risk fire to your ride. good luck.

nick731 05-13-2012 03:54 PM

ok i checked the power at the fuse and it IS getting power. I did replace the HILI fuse but no change. I will attempt to check the relay now. any tips? does anyone have a diagram of the AC system, what should be plugged up the the compressor etc. ? thanks again!

nick731 05-13-2012 04:21 PM

I also just checked behind the dash control and made sure that the white ribbon is firmly plugged in. still no solution....

nick731 05-16-2012 06:36 AM

does anyone know which one of these is the A/C Relay?

if you are learning 100 psig set and it is about 86F outside then you have refrigerant in the system, how much is challenging to say, but your air air compressor should be coming on. analyze and clean the wire managing into it, the cords managing into pressure receptors on the refrigerant pipe, and analyze the schedule reliever for a constant to make sure it is any fantastic. Best wishes & Luck to you
