First Oil Change
I can't wait----My first oil change is just about due. I plan on staying with dino oil for the second change then go full syn with Castrol ( dealer recommended ). Any comments...Thanks

just continue to stick with the dealer oil filters. Many of the aftermarket filters are quite suspect and aren't worth the cardboard they're made of.
The dealer recommends Syntec? Is that what the service department sells or what? Usually everyone'll tell you Mobil 1. |
Yeah, my oil change place recommended Mobil 1 Synthetic.
So, that's what I'm gonna keep using. I am currently on my...ummm....SIXTH oil change! Woo hoo! Still running smooth as butta. |
...it better be running smooth still. I'm on my sixtyth oil change and still running good! :D
Well, 215K miles. But yes, I know this is the 350Z forum and I don't have a 350Z! :p |
What weight of Mobil synth. is that?
|
Am running Mobil 1 in both my Z's (93zx roadster/350Zroadster). Use 5/30 in Jersey and always add a can of restore as a precaution. Had very noisy lifter on my 93 zx about 8 years ago (27k). Noise came and went was very loud, sounded like no oil in there. Tried every fix, every after market lubricant and nothing worked.Dealer could not diagnose problem, every time I brought it in it was quiet. A Saturn tech I know recommended Restore. Gave it a try and have never heard the noisy lifter ever again and that was 72k ago. Since then I add it to every vehicle I have owned since then. Currently own 8 and never had an engine problem on any car. I don't really know what this stuff does but it must do something.

9000-15000 is not necessary. As soon as you get to the break in point (should be your first oil change unless you hit the time limit not the mile limit) you can switch to synthetic you don't have to wait 9000-15000 miles thats overkill.
|
i would wait atleast 15K miles before using sythetic oil...And i would definetly use Mobil 1 5W-30
|
After your ready to switch to synthetic I too HIGHLY recommend Mobil 1 Synthetic.
|
I switched to Mobil 1 Synthetic after my third oil change.
|
i just bought my 350Z this past sat.. i cant wait for my first iol change.. its like have your baby say its first words..lol

Mobil 1=CRAP! You want the best go with redline or Amsoil!! I use amsoil...
|
My personal favorite is Royal Purple.

Here are some oils that have been shown to show the best protection for the VQ35DE based on UOA: Amsoil 0w-30 (great protection and good for extended change intervals 10k) Pennzoil Platinum 10w-30 (second best performer, not good for extended change intervals like other synthetics, change at 3k) Schaeffer's 7000 5w-30 (best overall protection, recommended for the DD, not for track) Mobil1 0w-40 (good performer, works for FI and NA, extended change intervals 5-7k, also great for all climates) Castrol GTX 5w-30 (outperforms many of the synthetics even Mobil 1 5w-30, good for the DD who doesn't mind changing oil every 3k) Castrol Syntec 0w-30 European Formula (hard to find, usually found at Auto Zone, great performer, 7.5k change intervals) I did not make this list. It was compiled by a member (Resolute) at My350z. It was made after analyzing many different UOA from the VQ35DE. It is not intended to be applied to all vehicles, it is specific to the VQ35DE. It is not a comprehensive list. There are still oils that have not been analyzed yet. There are some, however, that have been analyzed are did not make it to the list. Most notably Mobil 1 5w-30, which is probably one of the most recommended oils. The 5w-30 is not bad oil, but it doesn’t protect as well as any of the oils on the list and it’s expensive. Also, Royal Purple has not shown good results and did not make it to the list. There are some very expensive boutique oils, such as Motul, and they have shown poor results especially when you consider how much they cost. Don’t get caught up in the marketing hype of boutique oils. If you really want to know if an oil is doing it’s job then get a UAO. |
Well... you've shown us how to revive a super dead thread... nice. :D Mebbe check the dates before posting?
|
|
I revived a thread on the first page of the technical section. I'm sorry that there's not much activity.
|
ya, give the Z33 section a break. :D we don't have many 350Z owners...
None of the original posters of this thread even use this forum anymore, except for me but I didn't even have a 350Z back then. |
