z32tt wont start ...sometimes
 

Hello! First post, havent been near a forum in ages, so please excuse.

I drove my Z home one day and came to a stop on the street in front of my driveway to let it idle for a minute or two so the turbos could simmer down and then i shut it off.

Fast forward about 15-20 mins; I come back out, get in, ready to start it up and back it up the driveway and into the garage. I hit the clutch, turn the key, and ...

Nothing. Some dash lights, but nothing else. Not even an attempt to start up. I didnt leave any lights on or anything like that, try again, and again. I'm thinking okay, maybe somehow the brand new battery is dead. ... ok get the cables out, pull the wifes car in front .. then i decide to give it just one more shot ...

Starts right up. Car goes in the garage.

I have had this happen several times since then and noticed that if I pump the clutch several times all the way in and all the way out, then try to start it again, it seems to start right up.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the safety switch on the clutch may be loose or bad. Search for information on how to find it and what you might be able to do to remedy it.

Thanks, sound like thats what the problem is. Still looking for write up on how to fix or replace. Found a pic that shows where to find it. If i dont mind pumping the clutch pedal in and out a few times every now and then is there any harm in procrastinating with getting it taken care of. If I just leave it will it get worse, eventually not work at all, or cause any additional problems..?

It should just be a simple plunger switch. I used to own a turbo DSM and I'm sure you have heard of their problems with crankshaft endplay [crankwalk.] And in order to not make it worse, lots of guys like to disconnect the clutch start safety switch. That way you aren't putting hundreds of pounds of pressure on the end of your crankshaft when you go to start a motor with no oil pressure!

If the switch has two wires coming out of it, that's a good sign. Try taking both wires and simply tying them together to complete the circuit. If the car starts every time after you do that, it's a bad switch.
