Z32 Engine Swap

Hello all. i have a 1990 300z NA. My Uncle imports engines etc straight from Japan and has 4 TT engines in stock and will basically give me one. (for a small fee) What other changes would have to be made for this to work.. (ie computers etc) Thanks for your help.

Re: Z32 Engine Swap

there is nothing different b/w the Jspec Z32 engines and the Aspec Z32 engines, if this is what you are asking.

Re: Z32 Engine Swap

Right, but what would i have to change on top of the engine swap. Like emissions etc. Anything?

Re: Z32 Engine Swap

I guess it really depends on what you want to do. As far as an engine swap you are pretty much looking at the vg30dett, tt ecu and wiring harness would be good to replace.

Buddy of mine has a 91 na and wanted to do a tt swap. We ended up swapping with a factory tt engine, ecu, wiring harness, tt transmission, tt rear end (i believe the gear ratio's between an na and tt are different), gauge cluster. NA -> TT swaps can be done but expect to have problems in the future just in case. Ive seen a few conversions that have had problems but i think they mainly focused on the engine swap and began having problems with the tranny.

So i guess you would have to ask yourself what you want out of the car. Set a goal and work towards it.

This is my first post to this forum. Hope it was of some help.

NA and TT engines are not the same. There are differences and it has to do with the internals.

Its not just an NA engine with turbos slapped on there.

Re: Z32 Engine Swap

There are a few differences:

- TT flywheels are stepped
- TT gauge clusters are different
- ECU and harness
- Engine internals
- Gear ratios for the rear end
- HICAS system for TT's
- Intercoolers, piping
- Downpipes, exhaust problems?
- Heat shielding differences?

You can leave the rear end for the NA in for the TT engine swap, some have done the NA swap to the TT for an extra .5 right off the bat from the 1/4. The problem is that you lose fuel efficiency from the lower gear ratios in most cases.

If you can get the engine for nothing, then swap it.. If you like doing projects, swap it. If you don't mind not having your Z for a few weeks, swap it. If you have money to burn.. swap it.

Otherwise don't..

i know there is a difference b/w the NA and TT engine, if you would look at my profile, you would see i own both a NA and TT and could atleast assume i know the difference b/c a NA engine and TT engine, i would under the impression he was asking if there is a difference b/w a TT Jspec engine, and a TT Aspec engine...which is what i was answering
