Z1 turbos
Has anyone heared anything good or bad about Z1 turbos?
|
91 has a pair of these. I've haven't heard any bad news about them, but then again I haven't heard anything spectacular about them either that would set them apart from any other turbo.
|
I have the 525's and I'm happy with them so far. I haven't driven the car enough to get a solid feel for them yet. There is without a doubt a huge difference between the 525s and the stockers. I had 150k miles on my stockers and they were hammered. The 525s spool faster than the stockers and psuh way more air. You get all new gaskets and oil feed lines with the Z1 kit. They are rebuilt units.

I would not bother with Z1, get yourself a pair of gt28r to replace stock turbo's. If you want alot of power then get a pair of gt28rs with a .64 housing.

Where's the HKS superfan?
by that i mean ZLover4Life. :D |
lol The Garret GT28R is the Same thign as the HKS 2535 turbos. but alot cheaper. so I agree. Get yoru self a pair of Disco Potatoes and U can push some massive power with Very little turbolag Due to the fact that DBB (Dual BAll Beareing) is the best out there right now. Everyone loves Disco Potatoes even mEh!. I wanted someof those for my Z. and I still do just they are pricey. (no where near as much as HKS units tho.)

Just to clarify, the HKS 2535 turbo's are more similar to the Garrett GT28RS, not the GT28R turbo's. The 28R turbo's are not BB, but the 28RS units are. You may also see them as the GT2860RS--same thing as the 28RS. Both are available in 2 different trims. The Diso Potatoe's you refer to, such as the JWT Sport 700 are Garrett GT28RS turbo's with the larger trim option and have large lag characteristics, but excellent top end performance. However, the Sport 700 kit is still less than the HKS kit AFAIK.
I am in no way an expert on tubo and theories, but because I just made a decision this week on which turbo's I am getting for my project this information is fresh in my mind. I've been researching this info for the past 3 months or more. Contact ztuner.com for more information and good advice on which turbo's will work best for you. Harry is very nice to talk to on the phone. |

The Garrett GT2871R turbo's :D
|
Clarification:
Our GT525 turbos are not rebuilt units. They reuse the stock housings and actuators but the center cartridge and wheels are brand new Garrett parts. And the HKS turbo are 2530's not 2535's. They are similar to the GT28rs. |
But the GT28rs are not direct bolt on and require alot of modification to the compressor housing and wategate actuators to actually fit. Also the GT28R's Require modification as well to bolt on.

From what I saw, you only need HKS Wastegate actuators. and custom Waste gate brakets. I will find the wastegate braket blue prints and post them here. I was just about ready to do the GT28R on my car. but then yeah......
The GT28R and GT28RS are the same thing internally (both Dual Ball Bearing) but the RS has a little bigger Compresor Housing and the Inlet is not the same as it is bigger as well. (bigger AR #'s?) but both DBB. and the GT28R is easier to bolt on than the RS due tot eh fact that the GT28R the only thing that keeps it from boltign on is the Wastegate Actuators. if I recall correcly the actuator braket hits the motor mount but you can grind a little off the mount and be just fine. or get HKS wastegate Actuators and custom brakets and have a much cleaner Stronger turbo set up. but I don't have any info on anyone ever putting RS turbos on the VG. (maby cause the compressor Housign dosen't clear mounts?) so IMO I would just get the Disco Potatoes, HKS actuators, make teh braket myself (it;s not too hard) Get Down pipes (with divorsed flanges), Test pipes, Injectors, Cams, Upgrade IC [side mounts or FMIC dosent matter (and no u wont have any heating issues with FMIC my buddy did the set up I wanted and his car suns fine no overheating) I would go with Twin Garret cores ans custom end tanks.) that will run you on the 3,000's if you do everithing yourself exept the Custom Piping. and IC endtanks. but will give you a massive HP gain. (donl;t forget the Ashspec ECU!) my $0.02 |
Well I got the Z1 turbos installed! Those turbos really pack a punch! Z1 wasnt bullsh*ting when they said the turbos were powerful and spooled up quick....Z1 thats the way to go...
