Z N/A Stages???
 

I just bought a 1993 300zx N/A A/T with 100,000 miles on it. I am wanting to add some performance upgrades before I get visual upgrades.. I was wondering if there are Stages that I would go by like the TT???

stage 1: HKS Super Mega Flow Intake
stage 2: B&B TRI-FLO Exhaust System
stage 3: JWT ECU
stage 4: Stillen Headers
stage 5: Level 10 Billet Torque Converter
stage +: Unorthodox Racing Underdrive Pulley
stage +: HKS ALC II (Auto Tranny Line Controller)
stage +: A'PEXi Super AFC (Air Flow Converter)
stage +: Custom 2.5 inch Steel Test Pipes (Cat Eliminated)

This guy's ride is modded like crazy and his best time at the track was 14.266 @ 95.68mph. A solid ET (especially since his is an automatic 2+2, the slowest of the Z32s) but that's a lot of money spent on mods and he still can't even break 14. It's best to save your money for TT's, where you can run 13.5 stock.

i also wanted to say that i payed $7,000 for the car...do you think it was a good deal?

$7k, 100,000 mile auto NA? Not the best deal in the world, but it really depends on the condition of the car and how it was taken care of. Mine cost $2750 with 140k and I thought it was an awesomely killer deal, but after all the resto I've invested $5750 more to get it in its current condition (total: $8500 with big stuff like a paint job). If your car isn't in need of any restoration then I'd say you got a pretty sweet deal.

Like Z1 said, it's all relative to the condition. I started seriously looking at Z's in January. I was looking to spend up to say $8k. I didn't want a project car since I already have a couple. I saw a lot of junk from January on, regardless of price. I actually stopped looking for Z's and started looking at BMW 540i's.
Then I saw the one that I bought; It was a trade-in at a Toyota dealer, 87k miles, pristine, car fax showed almost all maintainence work, including 60k mile service and oil changes, performed at nissan dealer. kbb $11.5, I paid $7500.
For what I paid, I got a damn good deal, because generally I know the history of it.
I'm sure people in the midwest/east coulda got the same car at 1/2 price, but for SoCal I got the deal.

Dont even bother moding it dude... Not worth it at all.

Agreed. But I think intake is even a waste of money (unless you plan on doing a swap - then you can keep the intake). Doesn't do anything for you, and I've heard that the sound is the same. The only way I'm modding my car is the exhaust, and that's because of all the holes in mine and cause even after a swap, you can still keep your NA catbacks (and OEM is more than double the price of aftermarket).

If you do all of the mods listed by Z1, your car will still have less power than a stock TT. Not worth it, IMHO.
