What Are Test Pipes?

Ok people, can someone tell me what are Test Pipes and what they do. Also are they necessary when upgrading stock TT exhaust? ThankZ Alot Guys

Test pipes are pipes that remove your main cats. It is not necessary to replace them if you just want a cat-back exhaust.

to my understanding:
Downpipes = replace your pre-cats coming right off the turbo
Testpipes = replace your main cats
Catback Exhaust = self explanitory
