weekend story
i did the throw out bearing this weekend. i started saterday morning and wen until i went to work, then worked some sunday, and finished up on monday night. seeing the difficulty of getting the tranny moved around, i was pretty impressed for my first time doing it on this car. so this is the basic story with pics. not that anyone needs it. but i had a few questions on little things along the way.
first, i pulled dads TR6 out, so i didn't kick it by accident lol. it's a pretty small 2 car garage

then i got it up on blocks and pulled the exhaust out

i've noticed these before, but they don't seem to be too firm and when i jack it up they really move a good bit. almost to the point of making a gap. is it a pretty good idea to replace them?

then skip a few steps and here i am, tugging and kicking at the tranny to get it back

and here's the cause of it all. little bastard. it turned fine, but it had a little rust and wear. it evidentaly was the cause because it's fixed now.

so i pressed that out and the new one on. used a little oil to get it on and put plenty of wheel grease inside the assembly
the tranny didn't seem to go back on quite right. it's pulled up tight and all, nothing dangerous, but this plate really threw me off. there is a locator coming off of it and when i lined up all the bolt holes, the locator had no where to go. so it didn't sit right. i should have taken a picture first.

so now it's all done, and it works great. but there is a very high pitch squeel when i first start the car with the clutch out. it goes away once it warms up. and it also goes away if i barely touch the clutch pedel.... not sure about that one. i did grease everywhere that i should have, and not too much.
also, looking up at the shifter, there was a blue anodized plate up there. has a PO put a short shifter in? i thought it was a little different then the only other Z32 i have driven, but i never knew. i just would be supprised if nissan put blue plates in hidden places on thier cars.

Differential bushings are shot. Bitch to replace though... so if you're gonna do it, do EVERYTHING that you'll ever want to do to the subframe all at once (subframe bushings, etc).
It sounds like you do have a short shifter.
The squeal sounds like belts. Tighten them (and yes, it can be a coincidence).

thanks for the advise. i'm kindof disappointed now that it is a short throw lol. i hoped that i could get it shorter.
but you think it could be a coincidence that the squeel goes away when i hit the clutch even though it's the belts? the sound goes away if i just barely touch the clutch. maybe just enough to touch the throw out to the forks. and it is very deliberate.

well ok, i will. i didn't aim so much to question you, as much as to point out extra symptoms that may provide you with a greater understanding of the problem. i'll let you know what the belts do tonight
and on the short shifter, 2nd is the only shift that i feel is really short enough. well i'm not that picky, but 2nd is the only one that seems like it is the result of a short shifter
