VG30 ECU to run VG33E engine?

Howdy! Sorry to bother all you nice Z folks.
I don't own a Z, but I do have a 2001 Xterra 3.3 5 spd.
I want to do some exhaust work to it that I'm told will require tuning because my ECU won't be able to compensate enough for the changes. But the VG33E seems to have garbage for tuning options. I guess there's not much aftermarket for tuning trucks :P The only option seems to be a standalone ECU... which I really don't feel like investing in just to improve my exhaust.
Over on XterraNation (http://xterranation.org/index.php?th...fo-by-fo.8275/) I've been told that a VG30 ECU will run my VG33 and has far more tuning capabilities, but no one can give me much more information than that.
I was hoping someone on this forum would have more info regarding this computer swap.

Do the plugs from my harness match the VG30 ECU? Will I need to rewire any sensors? Will I need to add sensors? Will I run into emissions problems?

Any information you all have will be greatly appreciated! :D

Welcome to ZDriver!
I read through your thread and found "Prime's" post about the VG30 ecu... I guess he never found the "guide". :) Most of the VG30 engines ended production in 89 (Z31) / 95 (Pathfinder). Apparently there were some Quests / Villagers that still had the VG30 up through 98. Since your car is OBD2, you'll have to find an OBD2 ecu (96+) and have it re-programmed with your VIN. Then you can probably Nistune it if it's a Type 1 or Type 2 board: https://www.nistune.com/

I frequent the junk yards... I'll take a gander at the Quests and Villagers to see what I find.

Is the reprogramming something I'd have to take the ECU to a dealer for? I assume... VIN shit always means a trip to the dealer.

And I find myself at junkyards fairly often, so i'll start looking for ECUs from Quests and Villagers as well. If you happen to find one, I'll pay you shipping and whatever you want for the part and your time/labor. Let me know :D

Any luck with this?

did you have any luck with this? I am currently trying to figure this out to try this on my 04 frontier.
