Timing Belt Replacement???

Should I replace the timing belt on my 94na with 47,000miles? It is eleven years old so I suppose the safest answer is yes opinions please. Also I believe the VQ 3.5 is chain driven is there an aftermarket kit for the 3.0 yet. I believe the timing belt is the weak link of these motors as I own a 85z31na 5-speed that I had to tear into because the previous owner ran the belt to failure mucho pain in the ass.

well, take a look at the timing belt, if it doesn't looked cracked, etc....then it should be ok. change it at 60K....changing it now wouldn't hurt though.

How bad is it to change the timing belt yourself?

I say 7 on a scale of 10. tt.net has the write-up. It's excellent. You need to have a decent set of tools, and patience. You have to remove quite a bit of stuff to get to the timing belt. If you've done any wrenching before, you can do it. Don't try and skimp on the replacement parts. Replace everything that you can while you're in there.

What else would you suggest i replace?

I would do everything that comes with the 60k kit plus the upper and lower radiator hoses. I would also replace the vacuum lines and fuel lines that I could easily get to.

COURTESY 60k KIT

imho, no need to do the 120k kit with the idler pulleys since metal doesn't wear when it's not turning.
