surging motor HELP!!!!!

When I rev my engine to 3000 rpm it it cut's out and goes to surging at a steady rate. does'nt do it at 2000, just a little above. Does anybody have any idea's please, I need help. it is a 90 model na coupe auto. tnx Barry
