Supercharger?

I've always heard you could not supercharge a n/a. But I have seen sites selling superchargers for the n/a, like E-ram electric superchargers and typhoon centrifugal superchargers. Anyone have any input on these and if they work or a gimmick?

People that say you can't supercharge a n/a motor usually have their heads where the sun don't shine. The electric superchargers are a rip-off / farce. You can supercharge a n/a with either; a screw type, like an Eaton, that comes from the nissan factory on certain other vg motors; or a centrifugal type, like the paxton or vortech brands. None of the above types, that I know of come in a kit that you can just bolt up to a Z. It would require some mild engineering and fabrication to put a supercharger on a Z.

There are plenty of people here who will scream about all of the drawbacks of supercharging the n/a, but it can be done relatively safely at low boost levels. 6 psi is around the max boost on stock internals. Should get you close to 300 rwhp.

zgringo here claims to have done it. i am yet to see a vid of one in action.

LOL, he sure felt stongly about his water / alky injection kits. He went away once his alter ego, the "banned member", left. :D

it's not taht you can't supercharge an NA, it's that it's not smart to do. to use an eaton style, you'll need a whole new intake manifold that you'll have to fabricate from scratch. You'll have to use a voltech style blower and fabricate piping into the intake. Not easy, not all that beneficial due to a high compression ratio to begin with.

you can supercharge anything, just like you can turbocharge anything. Reliability and cost are the factors... it's more reliable and [generally] cheaper to swap in a TT motor, and you'll generally make more power doing it as well.

And I 2nd CanyonCarvers comment about electric superchargers... they generally actually cause more restriction in the intake than boost (they can't spin fast enough off a cars electrical system to overpower the natural suction of the cylinders)
