spoke to machanic.. told me to dig into wireing harness, anyone done this before?
hello everyone.. i own a 1990 nissan 300zx N/A. my car was running shity (missfireing) i took it to a shop for emissions (trying to get car registered) and they told me my #1 fuel injector was clogged. so i got referbushed injectors had them installed by nissan. now nissan is telling me that its not the injector, but one of the 2 wires going to the injector conector are worn (giving poor connection) the machanic told me to follow back the 2 wires in the harness looking for the break and fix it.
Has anyone delt with this issue before? got any pics/writeup?
thanks for the help.
Phil

i was more oss hopeing he was trying to save me some money... even though i thought the same thing.. i had just spent 900 dollars getting those injectors installed. a bunch of bull, it was quoted as a 5 hour job at 540... but took them 10 days after ordering some new vaccum lines and replacing the upper o rings they mutalated installing the injectors.. i hate machanics!!!! crooked *****'s
Seriously, replacing the harness with the engine in the car is a HASSLE. Not something I'd recommend... but the problem is, as I said, if the harness has never been replaced, it's dried out and moving any wire around can cause more shorts and bad connections.
There are many suppliers (Coz and Z1 for example) who sell just the injector connectors with tails on them... you could just get 6 of those, cut the old connectors off and solder/splice the new connectors in (make sure you connect the right wires of course), and complete what the mechanic is talking about, but then it's just a matter of time before your coil pack connectors go, then your TPS wire, then who knows?
But honestly, if you feel that you need a writeup with pics to complete that task (it's seriously just cutting old wires and putting new ones in its place), I'm not going to say it's something you should be doing. (No offense to you - there are MANY mechanics who don't like electical work... that's why Ultimate Z usually had me - a parts guy - installing turbo timers instead of their own mechanics.)

if you don't trust that mechanic, and he didnt' test curent going to the injectors before he replaced them (or after), then i'd check for spark in the cylinder in question first. maybe it's been done, but it's possible. i always double check the simple easy stuff
