Smoke From Firewall area(90 z32 2+2)
 

My mother just bought a 90 2+2 and has been having heavy smoke from the firewall area. Any ideas as I am unfamiliar with the Z. The shop she took to too said something about having to pull the engine to diagnose it at the tune of around $700. Sounds crazy to me, can any help me out?
