Rpm Not Working Please Help
the rpm reading on the gauge does not work anymore. have checked circuit board, continuity of wires, tachometer, and ecu. all seems to be functioning. put my ecu in another z32 and the rpm gauge works. put a known good ecu in my z32, rpm gauge won't read. need to find out what produces the frequency that make rpm function. please help. i appreciate any help on this matter. thanks

did it just stop on its own, all of a sudden? were you installing indiglow gauges or something? ...did you check out the pins behind the dash? what about the fuses? sometimes obvius things get overlooked. keep us updated

Z gauges are very sensitive... so sometimes when tempered with they can get stuck, or rubb on something.

I had an indiglo watch once. Does that help. What were we talking about? :p |
YAY...I started another trend.
back to subject.... if indiglo gauges are involved, more than likely they've either lifted off the surface of the stock gauges or warped from heat/cold to contact the needle to prevent it from moving. I solved this problem for myself with of all things glue. *shrugs* whatever, it works. |

yeah, pretty much.
Since you're missing the glass, it'd be fairly easy for you to just reach in and see. Push the needle all the way around to redline and then let go and see if it snags at all on the way back. If it does, then you know it's your indiglo gauges not being flush. Now all you gotta do is disassemble the whole dash and glue your gauges flat. Or if your feeling especially dextrous you could try with the dash in place. I think you'd end up with a mess on your hands and dash though. |
i concur :D
|
hahaha. Especially dextrous, huh. You kinda have to be to work on these cars sometimes.
Gauges 101....class is in session.... For those of you don't know, the 'RPM Gauge" is called a Tachometer (pronounced tackometer). Just and FYI. You can call it a 'tach' (pronouced tack) for short. |
Was I suppose to take notes on that? :D hey hey don't forget about "tack" off of Initial D

*Raises fist in Rock on* Yeah the older U get, the less pain, believe me. I broke my leg when I was a kid and it hurtlike a biotch. I broke it clutching my Z against a 350 and I did not even notice untill I got home (cause I won). Those 350's suck off the line seriously. I'm a bone stock 90 N/a and I kicked a stock 350's ass. I ripped that 350 a new a-hole. and *word*.

   Did this 350 know you were racing them? I said something in another post that went something like this.....a bone stock Z32 N/A with a 5 speed will not beat a 350z with an automatic. How can a stock Z32 N/A with 222HP @ 6800 RPM and 198 ft/lbs of torque @ 4800 RPM beat the Z33 with 280HP @ 6500 RPM and 260 ft/lbs of torque @4500 RPM? These 2 cars weigh almost the same. A stock Z32 N/A will run 0-60 in approx 7 seconds. A stock Z33 will run 0-60 in under 6 seconds.
If you broke your leg 'clutching your z', then you should consider calcium supplements. My grandmother needs it for her osteoporosis. Without it, you may wind up breaking your arm 'clutching your blanket'. :p If you're 15, then how are you out driving? We both live in CA. Legal driving age is 16. Please don't tell me you're doing all this with a learners permit. Yes, we are all Z drivers; which creates an inherent bond between us, but no need to fabricate stories. |
yah come on man..we all want the truth

Don't tell me you had doubts about that? :D |
ok ...let me get this straight.... you broke your leg shifting?????? ok so for you to be able to do that...you had to stump the pedal with such a force, that it is just insane....so if you did have such force in your legs you wouldn't have been able to brake it since you have some strong legs :D :D
Anyone else confused???? |
lol very...
