hey guys i currently have a 1990 z32 that i am wanting to do a rb26 swap i was wandering does anyone know where i can find a good guide for the swap thanks in advance

the only problem with the links is they are just other people who have done the swap but no real info on how to do it. I am not a complete idiot im currently going to school to be a tech just wanted to read as much as i can to make it as smooth as possible

if you want to do a motor swap dont use the Z32. thats my 2 cents. stick that skyline motor in an OLD Z. it will actually fit and do good in the lighter weight cars.

No, just horrible at math and physics, apparently.

Math: 3.0 > 2.6

Physics: All other things equal, a larger engine will make more power by flowing more fuel and air.

I see no advantage to the RB26 that justifies a loss of 400cc. The VG30DETT is by far an easier swap requiring no fabrication, and is extremely capable. If you want a fast Z32, the fastest 1/4-mile street-driven Z32's in the world run VG30DETT's (in the 9's for street cars). The speed record in the E/BMS class is held by the Jun/Blitz Z32 with a VG30DETT at 261mph. If you want a dyno-queen but can't afford a Supra, the highest horsepower Z32's in the world have VG30DETT's (over 1000rwhp now).

And as Eric said, if you're looking for respect in the Z32 community, the RB26 won't get you any. The only people who'll respect an RB26 in a Z32 are ricers... and who the hell wants their respect?

yeah i think i will stick to the tt swap then thanks does anyone know how much power a stock block can hold and are there any guides for swaping a tt into a 90 2+2

there are plenty of guides. check out tt.net. i seem to remember hearing that the stock block will handle around 700. but don't expect to get 300,000 miles out of it like that. 500-550 is a good goal.

stock block is rumored to be good for 700hp. i think the average Z enthusiast will be happy with 500 for a goal

Sean Wagner did 741.4rwhp on a stock short block (swain coated stock pistons). Another guy did 751rwhp on a stock long block.

As they said, don't expect it to last forever though - more power = more wear.

Take my word for it, ~500rwhp is PLENTY fast.

Dude, if you have to ask these kinds of questions, then you are in no position to swap anything, let alone an engine (much less the RB26 you were considering before).

You're asking how hard it is to take parts out of one car and put them into an almost identical car...

Search TwinTurbo.NET if you have more questions... this subject has been beat to DEATH over the 18 years of Z32TT existence.

Hint: There are 2 threads in the TT.NET auto-FAQ concerning what's entailed in a TT swap.

i'm gona have to agree with the search advise here. i'm relatively a noob and even i've already answered these questions on a few other occasions.

Zlover is 100% right. If you have to ask how difficult this job is, then it is over your head.

I can count on no-hands the number of people that have asked about doing a swap and have actually completed it. For those of you on the short bus that can't keep up wiht me....that means I have yet to see one person ask about a tt-swap that actually completed it. There are only a handful of people on this site who have the technical and mechanical knowledge to complete this and even fewer who possess that knowledge and the tools necessary to do it. Sell the NA and buy a TT.

I think you guys are wrong. I am not saying that he should tackle it. But, you have to start somewhere, and when I did my first odd engine swap in a vehicle, I asked questions on what I should do. But, after a while you just realize that it's going to take twice as long, and twice as much money as originally planned, and you just roll with the punches. Takes planning, and tools, and time and money.
Or just a lot of money.

true. most people don't roll with the punches though. that's why you see tons of started project cars for sale with lots of new parts. very few people finish the job.
