i was looking at the service manual and for spark plugs for the n/a it has 3 types...standard, hot and cold. what does that mean? how do i choose?

Just go to your local O'reiley's, advanced, or auto zone, and tell them u want NGK platinums for a non turbo (or turbo, whatever you have) 300zx 19xx (or you can get iridiums but they're expensive). Thats how you choose.

ya, i called my parts distributor today and got the price for the pfr6b-11 plugs...OMG!!!!! 12.76 EACH!!! why the hell are they so expensive? are they worth it? I only have a high flow catback and cai.

also, how do i know if i need to replace the coil packs? I have never had anything but plug wire before, so this is all new to me.

why are you going to a parts dealer? they sell the EXACT same plug at auto zone and other places....

i dont think nissan would have put that little sticker telling you what kind of plugs to run there for no reason. spend the $$ and do it right. and shop around a bit, you can find a better deal. even at 10 bucks a piece, its only $60 every 30k miles or so. you didnt expect to run crap ass Autolite junk in a high performance car, did you?

Who's running crap ass auto lites? All the autozone, o'reily, advanced auto parts around here have regular NGK spark plugs, same ones you can get from Nissan... I'm running non crap ass regular NGK iridium's...
*EDIT* I can't really say about auto zone or advanced, bc I go to o'reiley's, but O'Reiley's has THE EXACT NGK Platinums, friend just told me auto zone doesn't carry NGK, so my bad, but still, go to O'reiley's.

from what i understand...the temp rating is a bit counter- intuitive, you want a "colder plug" if you are running turbos or NOS or like a twin power ignition system, you can use "warmer" plugs on N/A cars. as for platnium or irridium and the cheap-o-s Platnium is for people who don't want to change thier plugs...way back when before platnium the longest a plug would last was around 45-60k platnium extended it to 100k, keep in mind the manufacture suggests you "break" the plugs free every 40k miles so they don't become frozen in place. Irridums handle more power than platnium but only slightly. I think its due to conductor size from the center anode, but don't quote me on that. Cheap is still cheap buy at your own risk.

that response wasnt aimed at you, so please dont take offense. it was a general statement to anyone who is shocked by the fact that high performance cars require slightly more money to maintain. it just happend to be posted beneath your post.

Stick with stock....buy from Courtesy parts. Don't be cheap.

I'll still stick with my statement that O'reilys has the EXACT spark plug with the exact same number, but if you are going to order, don't order from courtesy (Not to slam them, i've ordred from them alot before), but Coz over at www.conceptzperformance.com beats all of courtesy's prices...

Got mine from the nissan dealership for $68. Thats probably the same price you would pay getting them from courtesy with the shipping.

yeah, and you can get 87 octane cheaper than 92 too.:rolleyes:
