Overdrive Button

Hello. This is my first post, I normally lurk and get an answer to my questions by searching the threads but I couldnt find anything about this.

I have 1 90' Z32 Coupe with an automatic transmission since a few months ago. This past weekend while I was taking it out for a drive I pressed the O/D button for the first time and now it doesnt want to click back in. I'm stuck in O/D mode unless I keep the button pressed.

Is there any way to fix this without having to buy a new shifting handle?

Thanks for any replies. ^_^

your stuck in O/d or are you stuck with the "O/d off" light lit up?

its probably just sticky from sweat, mine was similar, I just worked it in and out, you may need to take some small pliers or tweezers and pull it all the way out in order to let it pass the point that keeps it from tripping itself on and off.

2nd Aphrodite. But I would take the shift handle off, clean and lubricate the parts, then re-assemble.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm actually stuck with the O/D in off and the light lit up. It doesn't "click" into the shifter.

yeah it sounds like its just not coming out far enough then, o/d off just means your car will shift at higher rpm's and your top speed is lower due to the lack of the over drive gear.

quick fix, duct tape. but it should be TEMPORARY.

Yeah aaaahhhh, that ......

and gas milage will suffer badly.

Gas milage is one of my top concerns here, I thought about the duct tape (or more like electric tape :p ), but then again I wanna fix it completely. I'll try to dissasemble it this weekend and see what I come up with. Hope its just a clip I can get around somewhere...

Is there still resistance when you push it in? Like does the spring inside still feel like it's fighting you? It sounds like thats the case......spring good, clickie dealie inside no workie. If you feel up to it shoot a quick shot of WD 40 into that sucker and scrub it with a tooth bush. Thats pretty much what I did with my high beams. I could pull the light handle at me to flash my signal brights but then I'd have to tap it forward a bit after i let go or my highs would stay on. A little lube and clean worked wonders.

I'll try that WD-40 and brush thing Comorat... the spring seems to work good... and I hear it kinda "click" it just pops back out and doesnt seem to be held in.

So I'll let you all know what I find when I pull it out. :D

Thanks a lot guys.

Use sparingly, you don't want to soak it and if you get too much in there it'll just gunk it up again later.
